I have been a WTM ambassador for the past two years, and it has been such a wonderful experience. The best part is getting to meet and learn from so many other passionate women supporting, uplifting, and mentoring others in tech. They inspire me every day. I am thrilled to share that my student, Ryan Schwirian, recently presented our project on Quantum Machine Learning at the Summer Science Research Program (SSRP) at Ohio Wesleyan University.

He has just started this journey, and this research project explores how quantum computing can be used as an alternative computational paradigm for machine learning tasks and how its performance compares to classical approaches.

We are at the very beginning of this project, and I am incredibly excited to see what the data reveals as he dives into the actual research and we start getting results!

Kudos to Ryan for a brilliant start to his summer!

I had such a great time last month at Ohio Wesleyan University!

I was honored to present at the Smith Center AI sessions on a topic I’m truly passionate about: Agentic AI in Higher Education. We took a deep dive into how we can use Gemini to build AI agents that serve as a 24/7 support system for students. It’s so inspiring to see how these tools can empower students and make their learning journey even better!

I am proud of my student, Aryaa Subedi, who built a prototype for a facial recognition system that allows touchless access to college dorms as an independent study with me. Such opportunities define the Ohio Wesleyan University experience: our students have the ability to pursue independent research alongside faculty on topics they are truly passionate about.

Aryaa has built a facial recognition prototype that allows for completely touchless dorm access, no keys, no cards, and no hassle.

Inspired by her internship experience and guided by Data Analytics professor Mehwish Abbasi, Aryaa’s project goes beyond convenience. It’s designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind, helping remove everyday barriers for students.

It was wonderful to host Joshua Starmer of StatQuest on campus last week for an insightful deep dive into "Quantifying Confidence in Neural Networks & AI." Learning from one of the field's most effective educators was an incredible opportunity for our students.

A massive shout-out to the Data Circle team Naya Banti, Radhika Agrawal, Aryaa Subedi, and Mukta Ashtikar, for their incredible hard work in organizing this event.

I am thrilled to announce the successful completion of a fascinating research project by my student, Aryaa Subedi, last semester at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Aryaa developed a facial recognition prototype designed to modernize dormitory access. Her Computer Vision model detects faces and verifies residency to automate entry.

While this is currently a research prototype, the practical applications are obvious, especially with the temperature dropping today, I found myself wishing Aryaa’s project was already installed. Imagine walking up to your dorm with freezing hands and getting immediate access to the warmth inside just by showing your face, no fumbling for ID cards required.

This technology solves the universal headache of lost or forgotten keys, but the impact extends far beyond simple convenience. The system provides a completely touchless and hygienic way to enter your home, and perhaps most importantly, highlights how AI can drive inclusivity. For students with motor impairments, manipulating keys or card swipes can be a daily barrier that facial recognition removes instantly.

This is a fantastic example of using technology to solve real-world inconveniences. Though there is more work to do to implement such a system, I am looking forward to the day when it is implemented and makes things easier for us all.

I’m excited to be presenting a session that empowers women with GenAI tools to boost productivity and help us work smarter, not longer: “AI as Your Productivity Partner.”

Through my involvement with organizations dedicated to supporting and advancing women in tech, I’ve seen how access to the right tools and knowledge can be truly transformative. In this session, I’ll share practical insights on using GenAI effectively and responsibly to make everyday work more efficient and impactful.

I’m grateful to Noor Islamic Cultural Center for this opportunity and for their support in helping women gain this valuable skill.
