Together We Grow Together We Grow provides no-cost support, resources, and developmental information specific to your child.

Welcome to Together We Grow, a program of the El Dorado County Office of Education and First 5 El Dorado. We understand that you are your child’s first teacher and want to support you in your efforts to ensure a bright and healthy future for your child. Our goal is to help you understand and monitor your child’s growth and development by utilizing ongoing developmental “check-ups,” sharing parenti

ng and community resources, and providing everyday parenting and child development support for children ages 0-5. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends periodic developmental screening of all children. You have two ways to receive developmental “check-ups” as your child ages. You can call 530-295-2454 for direct support from our Together We Grow staff, or you can go online by following the links below to the online Ages & Stages Questionnaire. Upon completion of the questionnaire, the results will be returned to you via email or by mail, so please be sure to include a valid email address and/or mailing address. Acknowledging and affirming feelings. Comforting. Calm connection. Space to feel safe no matter the upset. When feelings are respected, those less-than-wonderful behaviors tend to lessen and even disappear. Really!

And YES this can be difficult when our child's behavior and upset pushes our button. Now? It is way more about us than our child--way more about calming ourselves, first, recognizing this is more about the long term goal of a child who understands and manages feelings well...and THEN being able to step alongside our child from a place of calm connection--comforting, listening and being the guide they need us to be in order to learn and grow in healthy ways.

This focusing first on ourselves? It really is about my favorite theme...

As we enter into the weekend, we will have moments that are joyful and moments of disconnection, exhaustion, and frustration.

REMEMBER: (1) You are human-- give yourself grace; (2) Mistakes are meant to teach us something; (3) We have an opportunity to show a child how to make healthy repairs in relationships when we initiate repairs in our moments of disconnection with our children.

When emotions are high children (and adults) can't think clearly. Saying "use your words" won't help. They can’t always articulate what their behaviour is telling you.

We need to teach our kids how to manage emotions but we can't do this when emotions are high. When everyone is calm you can talk about what they could do if they feel like that again. High emotions are not the time to try and problem-solve so don’t do it in the moment. But later when you are both feeling calm talk about what they could do.
