Hi DMAA Families and El Dorado Community. This is Mr. Block

I just launched a new video series called CTRL+S: Saving a Year of School, and Episode 1 is live right now.

This series is all about what it takes to create the classroom experience. It’s not focused on what happens during class—it’s about everything that happens behind the scenes.

You’ll follow along as I design the curriculum, plan assignments, and build the structure for the year.

So if you have a student in my design program, this is your chance to peek behind the curtain and see how everything comes together—week by week.

🎬 Episode 1 gives a quick tour of my classroom and a look at how I plan to start the year.

We need your help Yorba Linda. While our deputies conduct traffic enforcement regularly and make every effort to encourage safe speeds on the roadway, we simply cannot be at every intersection at all times. Today, we responded to another traffic collision which could have been prevented. Red means stop 🛑. With the holidays approaching and more people on the road, please remember to drive below the speed limit, stop at red lights and stop signs, and drive sober. We are all responsible for keeping our roadways safe to prevent injury or a fatality in our city.

Our DMAA Student of the Week is Averie Olson!
Averie is an amazing photographer who has been a part of the Digital Media Arts Academy Photography pathway for the past 4 years. Last year she created a steller macro photography AP Portfolio that successfully documented beautiful closeup images of nature. Averie is also passionate about music and is a part of our award winning band Wind Ensemble. Averie is kind and compassionate and she looks out for her fellow students. I often see her photographing her band mates as they play in various functions, putting her amazing photographic talents to good use. Averie is planning on attending Brigham Young University studying pre-communication disorders to hopefully become a speech language pathologist. Congratulations, Averie! We are so proud of you!

Congratulations to Julia Steen!

2023 OC ARTIST OF THE YEAR NOMINEE - MEDIA ARTS

“Julia Steen is one of those students that has the talent and maturity of a professional artist, and yet she is only 16 years old. Her photography is made up of serene, natural landscapes that are visually stunning. Her images often feature a single silhouette, isolated from the real world, immersed in a perfect setting that has been untouched by humankind. … Julia’s work reflects decisions regarding climate change and how our actions affect future generations. Her work is beautifully composed, and often she comes up with unique ways to showcase different environments.” — Audra Ross, El Dorado High School

Congratulations to Nathan Hernandez!

2023 OC ARTIST OF THE YEAR NOMINEE - MEDIA ARTS

“Piercings, bright red-orange hair, a seemingly hard-edge persona — these words describe first impressions of gifted photographer Nathan Hernandez. But underneath that tough exterior is a talented storyteller. Nathan’s thought-provoking images immortalize portraits of today’s punk rock scene. Nathan’s art uncovers the camaraderie and connections that are only shown to those who are allowed into this exclusive social circle. Wild makeup, pulsing music, and costumes are the characteristics of these teens. You can tell that the people in these images trust Nathan and are willing to share their true selves with him and his camera, a trait common with the most influential photographers of our time.” – Audra Ross, El Dorado High School

Congratulations to Naomi Campos!

2023 OC ARTIST OF THE YEAR NOMINEE - MEDIA ARTS

“Ian would make a great Artist of the Year for his Photography pieces. Looking at his work you would think that the images were taken by a professional with years of experience. Ian has drone shots that are framed and cropped with an expert eye. He pays close attention to the content and composition of each shot.”
