🌿🦇 Summer Spotlight: Student Impact in Action! 🛠️🌲

While we're enjoying summer break, we wanted to share some of the incredible work our students accomplished at the end of the school year!

Students from Taconic High School's Environmental Science and Carpentry programs partnered to design and build bat boxes using donated materials from the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and expert guidance from MassWildlife.

These bat boxes provide critical habitat for bats that have been displaced by development and affected by White-nose Syndrome, a disease that has contributed to five of Massachusetts' nine bat species being listed as endangered.

The first of several bat boxes was recently installed at Springside Park in Pittsfield in partnership with the Pittsfield Parks Department. This hands-on project allowed students to apply their technical skills while making a meaningful contribution to local conservation efforts.

Together, we're helping support local wildlife and protect an important part of our ecosystem—one bat box at a time.
