FAR 91.119 has been misinterpreted by many pilots and has led to more than one enforcement action including one recently on the Connecticut River which has spurred quite a bit of dialogue in the seaplane community.

If you attend a seminar and walk away with at least one actionable tidbit that could save your life then it was well worth your time. Thank you Doug Kahn for your presentation on safety equipment and the emphasis that you placed on upgrading to and using the 406 mhz ELT.

Doug reminded us that in an actual emergency… even before you key the mic… activate your ELT. It will give you the best chance at being found. As CFI’s we’re reminded to incorporate this memory item into our training.
