If we are a community that believes high school should be meaningful and purposeful for all students, then we, the students of The Berkshires, are telling you we’re ready for school transformation!

Last week, students from seven high schools in our region took center stage at our Berkshires Student Summit held at Berkshire Community College. Hoosac Valley High School, Pittsfield High School, Drury High School, BART Charter Public School, Taconic High School, Monument Mountain Regional High School and Lenox Memorial Middle and High School. They tackled school design provocations and worked collaboratively to generate solutions. The Summit served as a vital hub where students forged connections, explored their school journeys, and provided essential insights. Simultaneously, adults absorbed their perspectives, keen to partner in reinventing the high school experience across The Berkshires.

Special Guest Ty Allen Jackson, award-winning children’s book author and TEDx presenter, kicked off the event with an inspiring motivational talk that reminded students: “You are so much more powerful than you know”, “You win or your learn…you never lose”, and importantly to “Be accountable” for the way you live your lives and the decisions you make.

Student conversations throughout the day sparked actionable ideas and themes. Most importantly students shared that they felt seen and valued in reimagining what’s possible in The Berkshires. They highlighted their strong desire to be at the forefront of change, expressing a clear wish for more frequent participation in these dialogues and events.
