Hey everyone! The Read-a-thon's official book is Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone! We'll be reading throughout the day, so be sure to sign up for a time slot!
"You are cordially invited to participate in the the Literature Program and University Library System's inaugural Lit@Pitt Read-a-thon charity drive on Tuesday November 10th in the Hillman library’s Cup & Chaucer Café.
The event will run from 10:00 am until 6:30 pm with participants collaboratively reading aloud the entirety of J.K. Rowling’sHarry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, a text selected via popular demand in a poll given to English majors/minors. (The novel won by a 30 vote margin!)
For the Read-a-thon to be a success, we need YOU! Each volunteer reads for only 10 minutes. (That's shorter than waiting for a spot in the Cathedral elevators.) If you have a 10-minute break in your Tuesday schedule, consider visiting http://pitt.libcal.com/booking/read and signing-up as a reading volunteer for one of the remaining slots.
If you’re unable to attend the event as a reader, we encourage you to come for a few moments on Tuesday and support the readers as an audience member.
Looking for something a bit more competitive? Be sure to come by for our Supreme Reader contestat 2:00—the winning candidate will receive a trophy worthy of the Triwizard Tournament. Think you have what it takes to be titled Supreme Reader? Can you make listeners swoon? Can you capture the drama in a sentence? Email us ([email protected]) to enter into the competition and claim your chance at glory!
Since the event is a charity drive benefiting the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food bank we’re asking each reader or audience member to bring one non-perishable food item or a monetary donation. With your help we know this food and fund drive will be successful.
The Literature program and the University Library System are very excited to provide a free way to experience the audio-version ofHarry Potter, indulge in delicious treats provided for all attendees, and to support a great cause. If you're an especially generous donor (those bringing 2 or more items for donation) you could even bring home some free swag.
Sincerely,
Jessica FitzPatrick & Katherine Mooney
Literature Program Outreach Coordinators
P.S. If you’d like to attend in costume, we encourage your enthusiasm! However, we’re just as excited to see more casually dressed Muggles"
