This February at Jumpstart, we’re celebrating the educators and pioneers of Black history who transformed the world of learning. Their courage, creativity, and commitment inspire us to dream big and work together for a brighter future. Join us in honoring their legacy and empowering every young mind to explore, learn, and lead the way forward.

A huge thank you to our incredible Jumpstart Corps Members who spent MLK Day serving with Shepherd’s Heart Fellowship and the Veterans’ Home. We had a lot of fun giving back to our community, and we hope this day provided everyone with an opportunity to reflect, connect, and make an impact.

Welcome new and returning students! We want to begin the new school year with an announcement that Jumpstart is recruiting! If you’re looking to make an impact in schools, become a Corp Member with Jumpstart. Our members go into local preschools and support children in language, literacy, and social-emotional skills to ensure readiness for kindergarten. As a Jumpstart member, you’ll also become eligible to earn the Segal Education Award, and can either volunteer or utilize your federal work-study.
Visit the application link in our bio and apply by September 6th for early consideration. We hope to see you on our team!

The holiday season is finally upon us! Today, our Corps Members participated in our Gingerbread House Making event to bond with their teams. This was such a fun event, and we wanted to share some of our creativity and designs! We are also happy to have had our Corps step away from their busy lives and enjoy a fun yet relaxing event with their Jumpstart friends! Happy holidays! 🎄❄️

To celebrate Thanksgiving, our Corps Members wrote anonymous thank-you notes to each other! These small words of kindness were an easy way for us to show our gratitude this holiday season. We are extremely thankful for everyone who makes up our team, and we hope your Thanksgiving break is filled with love and joy! 🤎🦃

Yesterday was Read for the Record! 📚 To celebrate, our Corps Members and Team leaders recorded videos of them reading this year's RFTR book, With Lots of Love. ❤️ With the help of our Engagement Coordinators, we were able to design fun, take-home activities for the children to complete. The activities reflect on the theme and importance of being family oriented, and appreciating the ones you love. The children were encouraged to create representations of their family or friends and string them together to show how everyone is connected in their lives. 👫 The second activity included creating picture frames, where the children could illustrate the people of importance to them. 🖼️ We are so glad we could implement these activities and videos in the classrooms to celebrate this year's event! 🎉

This year's Read for the Record Book, With Lots of Love, written by Jenny Torres Sanchez and illustrated by
André Ceolin discusses the struggles a young girl faces due to immigration.
-
Rocio grew up in Central America, but her family has decided to move to the United States. Although she does her best to adjust to this new lifestyle and environment, she finds herself missing her Abuela (and her cooking).
-
The author, although born in New York City, has immigrant parents from Guatemala and El Salvador. Her book is a great way to teach young children about immigration and the importance of family.
-
We hope you join us on October 26th to read this book! Stay tuned to see how our Corps Members celebrate Read for the Record.
