What if a classroom project could actually make it out into the world?🌎

In Ecuador, a community looking for better ways to grow food began exploring aquaponics, using fish water to help plants grow when traditional farming conditions make things difficult.

Through AllPeopleBeHappy, they connected with Professor Travis Johnson and his students at the University of Illinois, who worked alongside the community to design and prototype two systems.

We then funded the $3,500 project to help turn those prototypes into something the community could actually use.

The system is still evolving, and that’s what makes this project exciting. It’s not a finished case study sitting in a classroom. It’s being tested, adjusted, and used by the people it was designed for.

And that’s exactly where we want ideas to go!

One of the things that continues to surprise us about the relationship between AllPeopleBeHappy and Yspaniola is just how deeply our values align.

For years, the community of Batey Libertad dreamed of having a park where their children could play, gather, and simply be kids.

They brought that dream forward as an Impact Project with AllPeopleBeHappy. Together with Yspaniola, we helped turn that idea into a reality.

With an investment of approximately $8,000, the new park will directly benefit around 200 children, creating a space they can enjoy not just once, but day after day, for years to come.

Last week, we had the privilege of being in Batey Libertad for the park’s inauguration. A group of teenagers from Ecuador joined the celebration, witnessing what can happen when a community’s ideas, hopes, and determination are met with partnership.

There was music, laughter, and children playing. There was a community celebrating something that belongs to them.

Now, the celebration is over. School is back. And the park begins its real life — as a place for children to play after school, families to gather, and a community to enjoy something they dreamed of and helped bring to life.

This is what community partnership is about: listening first, supporting a community’s own vision, and helping create something that lasts. 🌎❤️

Development Associate: lead fundraising, powerful storytelling, and creative communications to showcase our impact.
Outreach Assistant: manage operations, facilitate community-based learning programs, and engage partners.

Climate Change in Svalbard â›…

Standing at the edge of the Arctic is a reminder of two things: how incredibly beautiful our planet is, and how incredibly fragile it is.

Svalbard is one of the fastest-warming places on Earth, and seeing that change firsthand makes the climate crisis feel a lot less abstract.

But I don't believe the answer is purity or perfection, it's progress.

The experiences that connect us to the world can also deepen our commitment to protecting it.

At AllPeopleBeHappy, we are honoring that commitment by restoring forests on the Pine Ridge Reservation in Tanzania, supporting organic farming in Nepal, restoring ecosystems in Puerto Rico, and empowering communities around the world.

Meaningful change happens when we move in the right direction.

We don't have to be perfect, we just have to act.

Sam’s journey to Ecuador started with a little nervousness, a lot of excitement, and plenty of “what ifs.”

Three weeks later, she was living with a host family, fishing for her own lunch, working on a bird manual, helping with reforestation, and exploring the Ecuadorian rainforest on a night walk. 🌎💚

This is what service abroad is all about: stepping outside your comfort zone, connecting with a new community, and seeing the world through a whole new lens.
