Pittsburgh Central Catholic H.S. Class of '83

Pittsburgh Central Catholic H.S. Class of '83 Since 1927, Central Catholic High School has been building a proud tradition of excellence as a high school for young men.

The school is conducted by the Christian Brothers, diocesan clergy, and dedicated laymen and laywomen under the auspices of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. The Central Catholic community believes that we are called to provide a quality Catholic education in a formal academic setting. In response to this call, we share our faith by forming a Christian community committed to the Gospel message of justice, concern, and respect. We believe that we fulfill our mission by challenging each student to attain his individual potential and by assisting each student in developing Christian values and the skills necessary for responsible living in the present and future world. Central Catholic High School is accredited by the PA Department of Education and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The U.S. Department of Education has recognized Central Catholic as one of the nation's "outstanding secondary schools." The student body reflects the rich ethnic, cultural, and racial diversity of the Pittsburgh area. Students come from the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding suburbs and represent more than 115 grade schools and 100 parishes. Current enrollment is approximately 870 students. Located in the Oakland area, the school is in the center of the educational and cultural district of Pittsburgh, within walking distance of the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie-Mellon University, and The Carnegie. The school's location allows students to take advantage of nearby museums, cultural centers, libraries, and places of historical interest.

All are invited to celebrate Mass with the Brothers at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. We will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Father George's Ordination. Join on Zoom: https://bit.ly/2WA7wq2

A message from Father George:

Dear Friends of Central Catholic,

This month I will be celebrating 50 years in the Priesthood of Jesus Christ for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Over those years, I have served as Parochial Vicar and administrator, teacher, principal, assistant to the Bishop and school chaplain. But one common denominator has been present for forty of those fifty years. That common thread has been my service to Central Catholic. Over those forty years, I have grown to love all that Central means to God country, and Church. The beautiful brick and mortar is an outward symbol of the beautiful lives that make Central such a special place. Since, 1980, almost 9,000 men have crossed the Soldiers and Sailors stage to receive their diploma. I am so privileged to call many of you my friends and it has been a privilege to serve you.

The Covid-19 virus has put a financial strain on many of our families. I ask you to consider making a donation to assist these families in my name. (www.centralcatholichs.com/give)

Thank you to all who have been a part of my life at Central Catholic. You presence has been very important to me. Know that I am available for any spiritual problems that you may be facing.

Sincerely yours,

Fr. Bob George

A new painting for Scholars Room!

The Art Committee (comprised of Senior AP Art History Students Chad Antosik, Troy Fisher, and Dan Conley) commissioned renown artist Cara Livorio after interviewing artists and making studio visits all over Pittsburgh.

Livorio unveiled the painting this morning during our Scholars Forum and was met with joyous applause and wonder.

The Art Committee unanimously chose Livorio based on her keen talent for telling stories about experiences and communities, vibrancy of color, sensitivity to the commissioning process, and painterly style.

Come check it out!
