Here We Go Steelers! 💛🖤

Point Park's Department of Theatre hosted an acting class for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse as part of the 2024 Rookie Development Program. The Rookie Development Program provides training, conditioning and opportunities for team bonding as they learn new skills off the field, like acting and improvisation.

First-round pick Troy Fautanu appreciated an opportunity to bond with his teammates outside of football. "Doing things like this only make you closer off the field and it helps when you get on the field," said Fautanu. "It was a fun experience and I hope to come back and do it again sometime."

Students in Professor Jayne Olshanski's Advanced Accounting course enjoyed a behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to work at Federated Hermes, Inc., an investment management firm just a short walk from campus.

Students met with William Friday, vice president of finance, and Joseph Machi, director of alliances, to learn about the firm's mergers and acquisitions, including its 2018 acquisition of London-based Hermes that led to the Federated Hermes renaming.

Hear from accounting major, economics minor and 4+1 MBA student Dante Gianfrancesco about his key takeaways from the experience and how Point Park has helped him become career-ready.

"I connected a lot of what we are doing in class to what was being said during the Federated Hermes presentation. We learned a lot about mergers and acquisitions this semester, and their presentation showed how that aligns with M&A deal-making and processes in the real world."

Newsapalooza — a first-of-its-kind event for Pittsburgh in celebration and support of journalism — will be held Sept. 26-28 at Point Park University's Pittsburgh Playhouse and surrounding campus.

Presented by Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University, the day will include national and local experts, sessions, discussions and hands-on media-making activities.

“Newsapalooza is an investment in the Pittsburgh story – the people who tell it and the stories they tell,” said Andrew Conte, assistant vice president and managing director of the Center. “True stories are challenged across America due to the loss of key storytellers – trained journalists. We need to protect this vital civic function, and Newsapalooza is another great way to highlight that mission.”
