Congratulations to Chris Warren.

Congratulations to Professor and Department Head Christopher Warren, whose Print & Probability project has been selected as a 2025 Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI) awardee by Schmidt Sciences!

HAVI supports interdisciplinary teams creating new AI methods to advance scholarship across archaeology, literature, art history, linguistics, film studies, and more. Print & Probability is a groundbreaking project that uses artificial intelligence to uncover the secret printers who produced controversial books in early modern Europe.

This year’s cohort includes 23 research teams receiving a total of $11 million to develop AI tools that deepen our understanding of human history and culture.

Join the Center for Print, Networks and Performance for their first lunchtime talk of 2025-26, featuring Professor James Wynn delivering his talk “Escaping the Gravity Well of the Frontier Analogy.”

In “Escaping the Gravity Well of the Frontier Analogy,” the English department’s very own Professor James Wynn will examine how critics and supporters of space settlement become trapped in analogies with the frontier experiences of the colonial past. Furthermore, Dr. Wynn will explore an alternative framework for imagining possible futures. Sign up to attend here: https://bit.ly/4iJNB09
