University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy Chartered in 1878, the School of Pharmacy is the oldest of the University of Pittsburgh's Schools of the Health Sciences.

er Schools of the Health Sciences, the School of Pharmacy is affiliated with the internationally renowned academic medical center, the UPMC-Health System, which provides the region's largest and finest network of tertiary, specialty and community hospitals. Collectively, these facilities provide one of the nation's greatest, most complete health centers for teaching, patient care, and research in the health sciences. Our PharmD curriculum integrates science and practice throughout the course of study to facilitate development of the skills necessary to provide patient-centered care in a complicated and evolving health care system. Central to the School’s educational mission is preparing students for life long learning and professional growth.Faculty design and deliver the curriculum utilizing both traditional and technically advanced methods of instruction. Provisions for a unique learning experience include (1) emphasis on team building through collaborative learning in group work (2) incorporating progressive techniques for problem-based learning experiences for students to enhance their skills in solving medication therapy problems (3) integrating Human Patient Simulation (HPS) technology into our PharmD courses where students apply their knowledge of medication and principles of pharmacodynamics and develop critical thinking skills while they observe simulated patient responses to their medication decisions (4) experience global health issues at international rotation sites developed by faculty (5) a rich environment of diversified research opportunities from basic research in drug discovery to clinical trials to outcomes research.

Congratulations to Deanne Hall, PharmD, Associate Director of Experiential Learning!✨

After serving as interim director over the past year, Dr. Hall has been appointed to the role permanently. She has made a meaningful impact on the experiences that prepare our students for practice—from strengthening site and preceptor partnerships to helping implement new systems for managing student rotations. Her clinical expertise and strong connections across UPMC have also been invaluable in supporting experiential learning opportunities.

It’s Welcome Wednesday!💙 Please join us in welcoming William C. Zamboni, PharmD, PhD back to Pitt Pharmacy as Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Director of the Cancer Pharmacokinetic and Pharmacodynamic Facility at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center!

A three-time Pitt Pharmacy graduate, Dr. Zamboni returns to his alma mater after serving as a professor and research leader at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. An internationally recognized translational pharmacologist, his research advances the development and delivery of innovative cancer therapies and other complex drug treatments.
