After moving to the U.S. from Cuba with a background in medicine, Mario was determined to rebuild his healthcare career. First, he needed to strengthen his English and gain essential job skills.

Mario spent 18 months in Literacy Pittsburgh’s English for Academics class, building confidence in reading, writing, and speaking. He continued his growth through healthcare customer service, computer classes, job readiness training with PA Women Work, and is now enrolled in Bidwell Training Center's Pharmacy Technician program! 💊📚

Mario’s determination shows what’s possible with hard work and community support.

Help us welcome Alyse to the Literacy Pittsburgh team as an English Language Instructor!

Alyse recently graduated with a B.S. in Global & Intercultural Engagement, alongside minors in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL) and Youth Services & Administration. She brings a wealth of hands-on experience to the role, having taught English to refugee students in Greece and adult learners across various nonprofit organizations, as well as supporting community literacy initiatives.

Driven by a passion for expanding educational access and empowering learners from all backgrounds, Alyse is dedicated to helping individuals reach their full potential through language education. Literacy Pittsburgh is thrilled to have her expertise and enthusiasm on board!
