MIDDLE VOICES, our scholarly journal completely run and managed by our graduate students, is out and available !!! Congratulations to editors PAVAN B. and ANNA K. !! The current issue includes a series of contributions from our own grad students (past and present), as well as prominent psychoanalysts and clinicians who presented work at the "Lacan: Clinic and Culture" that we hosted at Duquesne (which was also a largely student initiated and organized event). The journal is open sourced, so you have access to all the articles. Please feel free to distribute widely.

Now for the bittersweet ... for goodbyes and well wishes. We've had several events already to express the immeasurable gratitude we have for MARILYN HENLINE and RUSS WALSH, who are retiring from Duquesne in a few days. And to wish them well for this next chapter of their lives. But we have not announced it here yet. Hence, please join us then with the smile and the tear that accompanies well wishes and appreciation for two such wonderful colleagues and friends.

We had our end-of-year function recently, celebrating the year that was - one marked by accomplishment and challenge, one that saw us celebrate landmarks together but also as we bound together in support to face setbacks. We had great fun (chilly Pittsburgh weather in May notwithstanding !) - here are some pics.

Not all of us can run a marathon. But those of us who can, proudly run as TEAM HUMAN SCIENCE !! Some pics of Derek, Josie and Eliza at the Pittsburgh marathon this weekend (or to report in a phenomenological register - “For them, the world narrowed to the rhythmic pulse of breath and the tactile resistance of the pavement … beyond 'determination,' there was only the lived experience of the body-in-motion, where the distinction between the runner and the distance dissolved into a singular, unfolding consciousness of effort.") 😁

We are so terribly saddened to share the announcement of Brent Robbins' passing. An alum, a colleague, a human science pioneer - but mostly a friend and a good, good person, his death leaves a large and sizeable hole in our community. Information about remembrances and services can be found in the obituary attachment.
