🦆 Last month, our rubber duck ambassadors—Flo, Scrubs and Vickie—flew across the pond to England and Italy. They joined Pitt Nursing students and faculty members on exciting global excursions, from touring an old operating theater in London to exploring the ancient, ash-buried city of Pompeii.

In part one of this month’s installment, check out students’ recent experiences in the “Genomics and Precision Health in England: From the Plague to Nightingale” program, led by Associate Professor and Health Promotion and Development Department Chair Susan Wesmiller. During their trip, students learned about how the Great Plague of London shaped health care, from quarantines to monastic hygiene practices.  

Third-year nursing student Claire Mikolay said she enjoyed mingling with and learning from other Pitt health science students on the trip. 

“The interdisciplinary student group broadened my perspectives on health care, and I got to work with an incredible group of faculty specializing in precision health,” she said. “I cannot wait to bring what I learned back to my nursing career!"

🎬 Kelly Cincotta (BSN ’26) isn’t just a real-life aspiring nurse—she also acts the part. As an extra on the season 2 finale of “The Pitt," Cincotta played a nurse unwinding after a draining shift.
