Student spotlight: Khulood Al Ali

Khulood is a masters student in the college of engineering studying BME and ETIC.

How do you stay civically engaged?

“I stay civically engaged by helping to save lives and improving the quality of life in Rwanda. I spent nine weeks of my summer with Engineering World Health and I was there working in hospitals repairing medical equipment and training medical engineers and technicians in repair and safety procedures for patients safety, as well as supplying tools for repair and spare parts. I was able to have connections with local people and it gave me the feeling that I started something there and helped to create a sustainable system.”

If you want to make your mark in the Pittsburgh community, register for our next service event this Friday, October 18th with the organization Grow Pittsburgh. Link is below.

Thank you Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy for having us!

You all probably know that it’s an election year. Yes, local elections! City Council, County Council, County Executive, School Board etc. These are important offices that implement policies affecting the quality of life for CMU students. That means it’s time to make your voice heard, it’s time to vote!

This election is very important! As a run-over to the Presidential election next year, it is important that Presidential candidates realize the importance of seeking the college student vote. Pennsylvania is a crucial state! If you register to vote now, you can vote this November (last date to register is October 7), and then in the Pennsylvania Presidential primary in April. Pennsylvania will be a decisive state in the Presidential election next year so now is better than ever to register yourself!
