Woodland Hills JR/SR High School Community Mural

We're just a couple of days away from the opening of the Woodland Hills art show at the Carnegie Museum of Art! This is an incredible, rare opportunity for our students, so please come out and support. The art is from students of all ages from the district. The show runs through May 20, and there will be an opening reception on Saturday, May 13 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

PITTSBURGH FOLKS!!! THE ARTS FESTIVAL STARTS TOMORROW! Here's what you need to know:

1. This year the festival is in the Cultural District, NOT at the Point. I'm super excited that the arts festival is happening IN THE ARTS DISTRICT this year! It means the Artist Market (me) and the juried show will be in the same place! It means amazing intimate venues to see the performers and bands in! It ALSO means you can choose between a funnel cake and a lemonade OR a full meal in an air conditioned restaurant or on the beautiful patio of a downtown bar. Don't let the change keep you away, I think it's going to be great.

2. The Arts Fest goes for 10 days. I will be there the first 5 days so if you want to see me you need to come between Friday (tomorrow) and Tuesday. The last 5 days will also have amazing artists such as the beautiful so I recommend making two trips (but obviously, I'm partial to the first 5 days this year if you're only coming once 😉).

3. MOST IMPORTANT: I am so indebted to the galleries and stores I work with to show my work throughout the year, but this is one of the only events where all of the money goes directly to me, the artist. When you buy from a gallery or shop you're usually giving 50% to the establishment and 50% to the artist, but in this case it's a one-woman show and it all goes straight to funding my practice as a working artist. So if you want to support living artists, shows like this are one of the BEST ways to do it!

In the wake of the tragedy in Texas, let’s be cognizant of our own security protocols and training. As educators and parents ourselves, these horrific events shake us to the core. I believe the correct response is silence, personal and professional reflection, and ownership of each of our roles in preventing something like this in our own buildings.

I know the inner turmoil all school employees feel when these incidents happen. Let’s pray privately for the families and rethink our focus as we finish our last days.

We are so excited to share that we’ve partnered with and will be hosting a free vision screening and eyeglass event at this Saturday!
Guests will be screened for visual acuity and those who qualify will be given a voucher for a FREE comprehensive eye exam and pair of glasses. Follow up appointments will be made on site.
