Propel's K-2 Reading Initiative provides a strong foundation in reading for all scholars. Scholar Opportunities provide a range of activities from college courses in high-demand fields to eSports. At Propel, our scholars can enjoy a K-12 experience that will enable them to become changemakers. Our 13 public charter schools are Andrew Street (9-12), Braddock Hills (K-5), Braddock Hills (6-8), Braddock Hills (9-12), East (K-8), Hazelwood (K-8), Homestead (K-8), McKeesport (K-8), Montour (K-5), Montour (6-8), Montour (9-12), Northside (K-8), and Pitcairn (K-8).

Officer Sadecky is a community helper and our Propel Montour Elementary scholars were thrilled to thank him for keeping them safe. We also want to shout out WPXI-TV Pittsburgh for highlighting this special moment.

Here’s the bigger story: Dedicated yellow school buses are legally enforced mobile safety zones with flashing red stop-arms, crash-protected seating, and background-checked drivers trained in child safety. Public transit offers none of these protections. Yet, a loophole in PA law allows school districts to deny yellow bus service to public charter schools and force young children onto public transit.

Child safety shouldn't depend on where a student goes to school. It’s time to close the gap. We are calling on PA lawmakers to pass SB1325 and HB2491 to guarantee safe school bus transportation. If a school district provides school buses for its students; it should also provide school buses for public charter school students.

Propel is putting professional learning front and center by dedicating four rotating training days to Structured Literacy, led by Dr. Vicky Ryan from the Allegheny Intermediate Unit (AIU).
