We can’t wait to kick off our department spotlight series with Structures! Our mechanical team handles the design, manufacture, and validation of everything physical on the car, from our chassis to our drivetrain.

The department comprises of 8 core subteams: Aerodynamics, Driver Interface, Driverless Mechanical, Electrical Integration, Monocoque, Powertrain, Suspension, and Vehicle Dynamics.

These subteams take our vehicle from an idea to a tangible competitive racecar. Whether you’re interested in CAD, machining, or system design are assembly, Structures has a place for you. New members can fill out the New Member Interest form linked in our bio to get started!

We are incredibly excited to share that Carnegie Mellon Racing placed P4 Overall at FSAE Michigan Electric and P2 Overall at FSAE Michigan Driverless, marking CMR’s best overall finish since our switch to a carbon fiber monocoque in 2024 and our first time competing with an integrated drivered-driverless vehicle.

We also placed P1 in Driverless Design, P4 in Drivered Design, and P1 Cost event. Our team has truly excelled and overcame all the challenges that were thrown at us this year, remaining competitive despite building our first ever integrated vehicle and taking on a new competition class in tandem, making this one of our most ambitious and rewarding seasons yet.

Thank you to everyone who helped make 26X a reality: our members, families, and friends for your unwavering support, and for your continued partnership, for providing a platform to grow as engineers, our sponsors for making this work possible, and our alumni for your guidance, lessons, and encouragement.

We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished this season, and we’re excited to build on everything we’ve learned as we set our sights on an even stronger car next year.

A huge thank you to Sensoric Solutions for supporting Carnegie Mellon Racing this season!

Their high-precision optical sensor technology has helped us capture the vehicle dynamics data we rely on to tune and validate our models, as well as connect our design decisions to on track performance.

The development of 26x, our first integrated driverless vehicle, would not have been possible without the help of technical partners like Sensoric Solutions. Their support makes a massive difference in how we test, learn, and compete.

Thank you Sensoric Solutions for helping us push the boundaries of dynamic control.
