We had the pleasure of hosting Pitt’s Pitt Educational Outreach Center scholars to learn about tools and techniques used in biology research. The also heard from recent Gene Team alumni Aliyah and Colby about their time in the program. We hope this sparks some interest in future biologists!

We generated plenty of ATP-and even more excitement for cellular respiration-during our Mito Mayhem workshop! We had the pleasure of hosting 10 teachers for the past two days as they explored hands-on yeast investigations that bring cellular respiration to life in the classroom.

Congratulations to our Gene Team 2026 students!

Today they presented their research on the evolution of immunity in freshwater sponges. In just four weeks, these students transformed from curious learners into confident researchers, mastering lab techniques, analyzing data, and communicating their findings.
