The sun ☀️, the flowers 💐, and public speaking 😎
Springtime in Oakland means it is finally time for the 26th Annual University of Pittsburgh Department of Communication Undergraduate Oratory Competition!
On April 15th, we brought out 22 of Pitt Panther’s best student speakers to compete in four categories of public speeches:
1. Graduation/Commencement🎓
2. Diversity and Inclusion 🌎
3. Persuasive Speech and Policy 📝
4. Ceremonial Values 🏆
Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this happen. Congratulations to all 22 student orators who showed the courage to compete. We can’t wait to see you again next year.

Moderated by Pitt Commrc’s own Dr. Litzy Galarza and sponsored by the Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Climate (BIDEC) Committee, join the panel of schools across Communication, English, and Film and Media Studies. Here, we will discuss the continued relevance and impact of the Madrigal v. Quilligan (1978) lawsuit on reproductive justice issues and informed consent in health settings.

Meet the talented and accomplished Assistant Professor for The University of Pittsburgh Department of Communication, Litzy Galarza!
From her latest work published in the International Journal of Communication, to her groundbreaking piece in the 2021 Anthology "immigrant Generations, Media Representations, and Audiences," the Communications Department is thrilled to collaborate with Galarza and her values of diverse representation, quality media research, and LATINX empowerment.
