HR Management Learn how the human resources major at Point Park University in Downtown Pittsburgh will prepare you for a variety of HR-related professions.

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has designated Point Park University's Student Human Resources Association as an affiliate student chapter!🎉🎉

Club President Samantha Weber, who is a senior majoring in human resources management, said the affiliation will provide students additional benefits related to networking, internships, scholarship opportunities and career and educational resources.

"I enjoy SHRA because it helps HR students connect and form professional and personal relationships that help with our classes and careers," Weber said. "I also like that we get to connect with local HR professionals through the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association and Professor Sandra Mervosh's connections."

Our Student of the Week is Mara Van Thiel!

Mara is a Sophomore, Human Resources Management major. Her favorite thing about RSB is: “There are always so many opportunities. Between internships, webinars, and other events there’s always something you can do to push yourself and education!”

Mara serves as the Secretary for the Student Human Resources Association and the Academics Events Coordinator for the Honors Student Organization.

In her free time, Mara enjoys reading, meditating, and journaling.

Karen Drew is a Senior HR Management Major at PPU and a 1st-year graduate student in IUP’s Master of Arts program in HR and Employment Relations. Taking advantage of PPU’s 4+1 dual degree program, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Science from PPU this Spring, and a Master of Arts from IUP in just one additional year.

Karen joined SHRA as a fully online student in hopes of connecting with fellow HRM majors on campus who will be her industry peers one day!

Meet Shea-Colleen Smith, a new member of SHRA!

Shea graduated in 2012 from Point Park with a BS in Sports, Arts and Entertainment Management and spent the past few years working in the hotel industry. She chose to come back to Point Park for the Post Baccalaureate Program in HR Management to combine her passion for the Entertainment Industry with HR! 🎉
