Frederick Honors students are experiencing all there is to Portugal this summer! In the Frederick Honors Portugal Internship Program, participants have the opportunity to spend 8 weeks in Lisbon interning in a field related to their academic studies with the option of taking a Portuguese language course.

Living in the center of Lisbon and working in the city provides a unique, immersive cultural and professional experience as the group explores their academic and career interests!

The Frederick Honors ‘Books, Bones, and Bodies: Art, Culture, and Medicine in the Dutch 17th Century” program is off to an amazing start as students begin exploring the art, science, and culture of the Dutch Golden Age. 🇳🇱🏥📚

Led by Professors Jeff Aziz and Uma Satyavolu Rau, the group spends 4 weeks in Amsterdam (with day trips to The Hague, Delft, and Leiden) exploring the intersections of literature, science and medicine through museum visits, research collections, and experiential coursework!

Classical Mediterranean 2026! 🇮🇹🏛️

Students spent 4 weeks in Sicily studying the history and archaeology of the ancient Mediterranean, exploring Greek and Roman temples and theaters, coastal towns, UNESCO heritage sites, and Mt. Etna.

Some amazing photos showcasing our Traditional Medicine & Culture and Research and Culture in Senegal programs, where students spent 3 weeks in May engaging with Senegalese culture, including art, literature, cinema, medicine, music, and Wolof! 🇸🇳

The group had the opportunity to study and immerse themselves within the culture, religion, and history of Senegal outside of the classroom, living with host families and forming connections with local communities.

Spotlight on Across Continents: Arab & European Narratives in Tunisia & Sicily! 🇹🇳🇮🇹

Students spent 4 weeks in May and June observing and exploring the complex intercontinental interactions between Tunisia and Sicily. Topics of study and conversation included migration, examples of intercultural exchange and influence, Mediterranean literature, border mobility, and flows of knowledge between the North and South.

This unique opportunity allowed the group to live and learn from homestay families, meet local peers, and visit UNESCO heritage sites in Tunisia, as well as participate in workshops and explore archaeological sites in Sicily!

The Pitt in Japan: Its People and Culture group is in the midst of their packed 5-week program studying modern and historical Japan, developing their Japanese language skills, and getting to know the Kansai region!

Hosted by Pitt faculty and Konan University CUBE campus, students have had the opportunity to interact with local students, take a trip to Nara, and navigate daily life in Japan 🇯🇵
