Global Health in Spain recap! Our GHS 2026 cohort has spent a packed and rewarding 18 days in Malaga, Tangier, and Barcelona studying global health, meeting local medical and law students, and observing their environments in relation to health and healthcare systems.
Activities including meeting with impactful organizations like Women in Global Health Spain, Asociaciรณn Arrabal-AID, and Fondation Orient-Occident to discuss missions such as supporting migrants and refugees in Tangier and highlighting contributions of women in health fields.
The group also got to participate in cultural activities such as a cooking class, a flamenco show, a local scavenger hunt, and a day trip to Ronda.
These students are leaving thinking about the similarities and differences between healthcare systems in the U.S., Spain, and Morocco, and how their experiences can shape their work and studies back home ๐ช๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฆ

Our Himalayan Health program is off to a great start as the students begin learning about emergency medicine and public health in North India, led by Pitt faculty Dr. Joseph Alter.
So far, the group has visited Rishikesh, the Wildlife Institute of India, and begun their trek through the region! ๐ฎ๐ณโ๏ธ

Wrapping up our A&S First Year Programs spotlight week with our Costa Rica group! ๐จ๐ท
The students used Costa Rica as a living laboratory, examining tropical environments, conducting fieldwork, and analyzing how ecological systems respond to climate change.
The programโs activities included a visit to La Selva Biological Station, Lake Arenal and its surrounding hot springs, hanging bridges in the Arenal region, Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a discussion hosted by womenโs cooperative CASEM, and a multitude of hikes ๐ฟ๐ง๏ธ
By exploring Costa Rica, the students have gained an experiential and intercultural lens into biodiversity, sustainability, and environmental science ๐

Our A&S students in Ghana developed their relationship and knowledge of the country through community engagement and exploration. ๐ฌ๐ญ
The students:
- visited sites like Black Star Square and the Kwame Nkrumah museum in Accra
- did service learning with community-development organization Peace Humanity International
- met local host families preparing dinner and learning Ghanaian customs
- engaged with students at Divine Kids Academy
- explored beaches, Cape Coast Castle, canopy walkways at Kakum National Mark

Over the past week, our 2nd cohort of A&S First Year Global Program students have been busy exploring and deepening their understandings of countries and cultures abroad ๐๐๐
Their first opportunity to study abroad, Dietrich program participants spend ten days in May expanding on lessons discussed during a spring pre-departure course. Topics and focus areas range from roles of gender in society, indigenous cultures, environmental leadership, migration studies, and education and healthcare systems.
After the successful launch of the program in 2025, we expanded to four locations this year: Bolivia, Ghana, and 2 new localities, Costa Rica and Sicily! Follow along with us this week as we showcase each location and the studentsโ experiences developing their global knowledge. ๐ง๐ด๐จ๐ท๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฎ๐น

Our Magic and Witchcraft in Scotland program is settling in on the beautiful campus of Heriot-Watt University!
Over the next 4 weeks, the students will explore the city of Edinburgh and the Scottish countryside while investigating the history of magic, witchcraft, and literature in the region ๐ง๐ด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ

A very bittersweet CONGRATULATIONS ๐ to our 2025-2026 cohort of Pitt GEO (Emily, Haddie, Leah, and Mya) and Vira I. Heinz (Giovina) ambassadors who have worked hard to share their global experiences with peers, advise students, and assist with program searching, applications, and questions.
It has been an immense privilege to work with this group of passionate and talented seniors and we are so excited to see where they go next โ whether domestic or overseas โ as they embark on their post-grad journeys.
