It is with great sadness that St. Gabriel alumni John Hyrb (’81) and Doug Hyrb (’91) announce the death of their mother, JANET HYRB, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday 8/10/2021, at the age of 84.

Mrs. Hyrb was the St. Gabriel’s Cheerleading Coach from 1974-1995. Appointed by then-Principal Sister Marietta, Mrs. Hyrb led the squads to their first-ever Diocesan Championship within 3 years. During her 21 years as Coach, St. Gabriel’s School won the Diocesan Championship numerous times, despite competing against 30+ other schools each year. For the hundreds of former cheerleaders who remember, Mrs. Hyrb’s favorite move was the staggered “Flying Doves”, which was a frequent high profile “leap of faith” ending to their competition cheers.

Mrs. Hyrb was also known for her beautiful soprano singing voice in St. Gabriel’s Church, where she sang weekly for almost 30 years, as well as for many weddings, funerals, and other special occasions.

Our hearts are incredibly full for our amazing St. Gabriel school community, alumni, friends, faculty and staff as well as our devoted Our Lady of Hope parishioners. This year, we were able to raise $31,915‼️
