Decoys

Hey you know I have made a few. But I haven't had the urge to complete this sleeping woodduck for a long time.
Two years ago at Christmas we had a house fire. Bad time, lost almost all my carving tools as a result. But we did save my supply of glass eyes and my knives, one micro motor plus the handpiece plus two older transformers.

I was in the process of transitioning to oil paintings anyway so I just put that part of my art away.

But a close friend named Jeff Cross kept trying to convince me to get back into the decoys. Twice I place third in the rigs at Worlds etc.

So about a week ago I ordered some micro carver bits from Ram. Diamond bits and small carbide burs. Prior to the fire I had over a hundred of them.

And took another look at this sleeping woodduck I started over three years ago. It looked blocky to me and what I want is something more fluid--flowing. Ultimately a three dimensional canvas on which to explore and experiment with some vibrant, dark and mysterious colors.

Two sessions in I'm starting to find some flow.

And a few ideas for the future have started percolating in the dome.

Not for competitions, no never again---just to make art

A Llewellin Setter Pup

Over the years we have owned 5 Llewellins--and we had three litters for a total of 15 pups during that time.
Currently waiting to hear if get a Irish Red and White Setter from a Rescue Organization

We've had two sets of Fawns hanging around the yard this summer. Their white spots are almost gone now. I felt inspired so this what came of it.
