🏆 Educator Spotlight: Lauretta Woodson Award Winners!
Join us in congratulating two of our phenomenal early childhood educators, Ms. Jennifer Grimm (Roosevelt Early Childhood) and Ms. Holly McCormick (Brookline Pre-K), for receiving the prestigious Lauretta Woodson Award from the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR)! 👏
This honor is awarded to educators who demonstrate extraordinary dedication to their students and school communities. It is named in memory of Dr. Lauretta Woodson, a legendary retired English teacher who dedicated her life to advocating for education and shaping the PASR into what it is today.
Ms. Grimm and Ms. McCormick embody that very same passion, heart, and commitment every single day, giving our youngest learners the absolute best start in life. We are incredibly fortunate to have them leading our classrooms and inspiring our children!
Congratulations, Jen and Holly!🎉

Color Detectives on the Loose! 🕵️♀️
Our preschoolers from Allegheny Early Childhood took a short stroll from their classroom to the renowned National Aviary for a very colorful lesson! 🦜
Our little learners discovered the secret superpower of birds: camouflage! They learned how the colors and patterns of feathers help birds hide from predators and survive in the wild. Armed with this new knowledge, our "color detectives" began searching high and low through the Aviary’s exhibits, spotting clever birds blending perfectly into their habitat. 🦉

A “Paws-itively” wonderful day at Roosevelt Early Childhood! 🐾
Our students had the absolute best time participating in the Animal Friends Therapet Program! We had two very special, certified therapy dogs—Ralph and Kaleah—visit the center to spend some quality time with the children.
Beyond all the amazing dog snuggles (which everyone loved!), our students learned important dog safety skills, including how to safely interact with dogs and what to do when approached by one.
A huge thanks to Animal Friends and their sweet four-legged volunteers for bringing so many smiles to Roosevelt Early Childhood! 🐶

An "udderly moo-ving" experience 🐮🥛
Turner Dairy Farms brought their Cows in the Classroom program to Spring Garden Early Childhood Center! This interactive program teaches students where milk comes from and how dairy farms operate.
There is nothing better than seeing kids connect the dots between seeing how things go from farm to table. When they leave the classroom and see a milk carton at home, they won't just see a drink—they'll see the cows, the trucks, the farmers, and the incredible journey it took to get there! 🥛

Watch Us Bloom! 🌸👋
The classrooms at Spring Garden Early Childhood Center are teaming up to bring a little bit of Spring indoors! Our talented preschoolers have been busy getting their hands painted to create a beautiful, collaborative "indoor garden" bulletin board.
Each child's unique handprint is being transformed into a vibrant flower, showing that while we all grow in our own ways, we bloom together as one big school family! 🏢🌱

“Shiver Me Timbers” Spring Garden Buccaneers! 🏴☠️🦜
Our little mates at Spring Garden Early Childhood Center set sail on the high seas (and the Monongahela River!) for a special interactive performance of Pirates of the Mon by the incredible Gemini Children's Theater!
Our little buccaneers had to step up to help a very messy Captain whip the ship back into shape so they could beat rival pirates to the coveted treasure. Through this high-seas adventure, our students put their critical thinking skills, teamwork, and cooperation to the test to be the first to find the prized possession!
Thank you to Gemini Theater for bringing such a high-energy, educational, and locally inspired performance to our center! 🗺️✨

Morning with Moms (and other extra special people) Event! ☀️🌱
The playground and green spaces at Chartiers Early Childhood Center were filled with so much love, laughter, and energy for this year’s event where we focused on the joy of outdoor play and nature.
From competitive rounds of kickball, soccer, and basketball to bike riding, football, and cozy reading corners under the sky, everyone found a way to play. To top it all off, our children and their special guests planted beautiful flowers in window greenhouses to take home and watch grow.
Thank you to all the amazing moms and special people who came out to play, plant, and make memories! ♥️

👏Take a Father to School Day Success
Our Infant/Toddler Program (also known as Early Head Start) at Pittsburgh UPrep recently celebrated a highly successful Take a Father to School Day initiative. Centered around the theme "Build with Buddies," the event invited families into classrooms during transition times (drop-off and pick-up) to engage in interactive, hands-on play.
This initiative provided an excellent, real-world framework for observing and supporting students’ developmental progress and school readiness (DRDP measure: SED 3 - Relationships and Social Interactions with Familiar Adults). By inviting primary caregivers and familiar adults into the educational space, staff were able to observe high levels of comfort, collaborative play, and secure attachment behaviors in a structured learning environment.
Watching our little learners collaborate, build, and share these special moments with the important adults in their lives was truly the highlight of our week. Thank you to all the amazing families who joined us in making school feel like home!
🌟 Huge turnouts for the annual Take A Father to School Day! 🌟
We were so thrilled to welcome so many fathers, mothers, and significant caregivers into our classrooms this year for the annual Take a Father to School Day. From puppet shows and petting zoos to exploring school green spaces and racing through physical fitness relays, there truly was something for everyone!
This special event celebrates the importance of positive role models in a child's life and encourages them to remain a constant, supportive presence throughout their child’s educational journey, starting from a young age.
Thank you to all the amazing caregivers who joined us to make this day filled with food, fun, and connection so special! ❤️
