Happy Juneteenth!

Freedom is not just history. It’s ongoing.

Today we reflect on Black freedom, resilience, and the work that continues. Safety, dignity, and respect are part of that work.

Summer programs move fast. People meet quickly.

Take your time. You don’t owe anyone access to your time, your body, or your attention.

Respect goes both ways.

Pride Month is a reminder that campus spaces should be places where students can learn, connect, and be themselves safely.

Title VI and Title IX can both matter here. Title VI addresses discrimination based on race, color, or national origin. Title IX addresses sexual misconduct , including protections that may affect LGBTQ+ students.

Different laws. Shared goal. A campus where students can participate fully and safely.

Being out should not mean being at risk.

Check in with friends when going out. Make plans to leave together. Stay aware of your surroundings.

Care is part of celebration.

Title IX is about more than athletics.

Many people know Title IX for creating more equity in sports, but it also protects students from sexual misconduct in education, including sexual harassment, sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and pregnancy-related protections.

At its core, Title IX is about access. Students should be able to learn, work, and participate in campus life without discrimination getting in the way.

Screenshots last.
Messages travel.

Before you send something personal, pause. Think about where it could end up and who might see it.

Protect yourself and others.

If you are new to the Pittsburgh, PA or even the U.S., relationship norms may be confusing or feel different.

At CMU, consent must be clear and freely given. Power, pressure, or fear should never be part of it.

You belong here. You can ask questions. You can get support.

Isolation in relationships

Control doesn’t always look obvious.

It can show up as limiting who you talk to, where you go, or how you spend your time.

If something feels off, trust that feeling.
