Three days until kindergarten, so naturally she’s practicing one of the most important first-week skills: successfully managing a PB&J. 🥪👑

Because kindergarten readiness is not just letters, numbers, and following directions. It is also opening containers, handling lunch, asking for help when needed, and making it through snack time without wearing half of it.

She appears fully prepared.

Princess dress? On.
PB&J skills? Strong.
Kindergarten countdown? Officially at three days.

August 25, here she comes.

POV: You just remembered it’s Saturday and nobody can ask you to find your folder. 😎

That smile says he has plans—and absolutely none of them involve sitting still.

Weekend mode: activated.
Good vibes: secured.
Tiny celebrity wave: pending.

Honestly, we should all enter the weekend with this level of confidence.

That face you make when someone says, “Summer is almost over.” 😏

We know. Nobody asked for that kind of negativity.

But here’s the plot twist: back-to-school at DePaul School means reconnecting with teachers, getting back into routines, showing off new skills, and reminding everyone just how much personality can fit into one building.

And judging by this expression, she is already prepared to bring the confidence, the comedy, and at least one perfectly timed side-eye.

Reading the official DePaul School back-to-school checklist like the stakes are extremely high:

☑ Backpack
☑ Pencils
☑ Hearing technology charged
☑ Mini Mic located
☑ Roger microphone accounted for
☑ Chromebook charged
☑ Charger actually packed with the Chromebook
☑ Water bottle labeled with a name instead of “that blue one”
☑ One snack your child will eat and three they absolutely will not
☑ A wildly detailed story that begins with, “Okay, but first…”
☑ Bunny ears, apparently

Back-to-school at DePaul School requires academics, technology, communication access, and a surprising amount of equipment that must all leave the house at the same time.

Parents, what are we forgetting?

Miss Alicia and her legal counsel have reached a tentative agreement. 🤝

The proposed terms include:

One reasonable amount of homework
Two highly necessary brain breaks
Recess protected under all circumstances
Snack access considered a basic human right
No surprise quizzes without representation

Both parties remain optimistic, although the student’s team is reportedly pushing for a four-day school week and unlimited playground privileges.

At DePaul School, students learn how to ask questions, express opinions, advocate for themselves, and participate in conversations with confidence.

Sometimes that looks like classroom discussion.

Sometimes it looks like intense negotiations over the homework-to-recess ratio.

Back-to-school shopping season means new pencils, fresh notebooks, and the annual reopening of one of society’s most divisive debates:

What color is math?

There are people who say math is blue.
There are people who say math is red.
And then there are people who cannot be trusted around school supplies.

Science is obviously green. English is probably yellow. Social studies feels orange. But math? Math has started family arguments, ended friendships, and sent Millennials straight back to the five-subject notebook aisle at Target.

Our student is ready to do the work. We, meanwhile, need answers.

When someone says, “Just give me a little smile.”

Him: Absolutely not. You’re getting the deluxe package. 😁

This is the kind of grin that could restart a Monday, fix the Wi-Fi, and convince you that maybe back-to-school season is not so bad after all.

At DePaul School, our students bring big personalities, big ideas, and apparently absolutely zero interest in subtlety.

We're planning on keeping that same energy all year.

National Geographic presents: Toddlers in Their Natural Habitat. 🐚

Observe as three tiny explorers gather around the sensory bin.

One digs.
One investigates.
One stares directly into the sand as though it owes her money.

The shells are being relocated. The kinetic sand has crossed several borders. Leadership remains unclear.

It’s giving beach vacation, archaeological expedition, and workplace meeting that could have been an email—all at once.

Attention shoppers: aisle three is currently experiencing a banana emergency. 🍌🛒

These SAILL students are practicing much more than grocery shopping. Dramatic play helps children build vocabulary, take turns, ask and answer questions, follow directions, solve problems, and use language in ways that feel natural and fun.

One child is the cashier. One is the customer. One may be conducting a very serious inventory audit. Everyone has a job, a reason to communicate, and approximately zero concern about rising grocery prices.

SAILL Preschool gives children with speech and language needs a supportive place to learn through play, routines, repetition, and specialized instruction.

SAILL is enrolling! Follow SAILL for classroom moments, family tips, and program updates, and learn more at depaulhearingandspeech.org.

Before Instagram. Before TikTok. Before anyone photographed their lunch. DePaul School students were already out here growing things. 🌱📸

This early-1980s throwback shows students gardening outside DePaul School—learning through teamwork, responsibility, conversation, and hands-on experience.

The hairstyles have changed. The photo quality has definitely changed. But the heart of DePaul School has not.

For generations, our students have been encouraged to explore the world, build practical skills, communicate with confidence, and discover what they can do.
