The Duquesne Athletic Training Program prepares students for excellence in clinical practice.

06/02/2026

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Rosie Cheng has joined the MSAT faculty at Duquesne University as the Clinical Education Coordinator.
Dr. Cheng is originally from the Philadelphia area and grew up playing field hockey and lacrosse.
She has worked clinically for 23 years in all divisions of collegiate sports while also obtaining her master’s in public management from Carnegie Mellon and Doctor of Education from the University of St. Augustine.
What excites her most is “the chance to build on the rich tradition of its athletic training program while helping shape its future.”
We are thrilled to have Rosie, her husband Greg and two fur babies (Winnie and Anna) as part of the team!

Happy Faculty Friday! This week, we’re proud to spotlight Dr. Kelley Henderson!

Dr. Henderson was inducted into the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in 2023 as a Distinguished Practitioner and Fellow, an organization dedicated to advancing interprofessional healthcare by uniting leaders across 17 health professions.

She remains actively involved, currently serving as the Athletic Training Academy Marketing and Communications Committee Chair. Most recently, she collaborated on a cross-academy asthma workshop and contributed to a poster presentation highlighting this important work.

We’re grateful for Dr. Henderson’s leadership, passion, and continued impact on the future of healthcare and athletic training!

Over the past few weeks, our MSAT1 students had the incredible opportunity to learn, practice, and earn their Astym therapy certifications with guidance from Dr. Ben Kivlan of Duquesne’s Physical Therapy department.

Our MSAT program is the only one in the country currently offering this certifications to athletic training students, putting our graduates ahead of the game when it comes to noninvasive, evidence-based treatment designed to help heal complex musculoskeletal conditions.

Huge thank you to Dr. Kivlan for sharing his time and expertise with our students!

Next up in the “soon to be alumni” highlights of our class of 2026 is Grace Dietrich!

Post-grad plans:  “After graduation I will be working as a fellow with Duke University Football for their 2026-2027 season!”

Favorite Duquesne memory: “It is hard to pick one memory that is my favorite, because I loved all of them! If I had to pick it would be the memory of being the first inaugural class of the Master of Athletic Training program here at Duquesne. It is a very difficult process to go through and I’m forever grateful I got to experience it with three of my best friends!”

Congratulations Grace, we are so proud of your hard work, and we can’t wait to see what you accomplish!

Happy Flashback Faculty Friday!

After throwing it back with our students, we couldn’t leave out flashback with our amazing athletic training faculty.

Here’s our faculty long before they knew the impact they’d have in teaching, mentoring, and leading the next generation of athletic trainers.

We are so grateful their paths led them to Duquesne!

Happy Way Back Wednesday!!

Today we’re taking it all the way back with our MSAT students!

These throwback photos are a fun reminder of where everyone started before finding their path into athletic training.

Safe to say, younger them would be so proud of how far they’ve come…and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead!
