Keystone Oaks School District is composed of the communities of Castle Shannon, Dormont and Green Tree.

The Keystone Oaks School District's page was created to share important district news and information while connecting our families, students, staff and community members. In celebration of National Fire Prevention Week, the Tree Volunteer Fire Company visited Fred L. Aiken Elementary School on Friday.

Students participated in stations where they learned how to use a fire extinguisher, tried on fire fighting gear, operated a high-powered water hose, and explored a fire truck. 🚒🧯🧑🏽‍🚒

Students ended the day with one of their favorite PBIS rewards - watching pumpkins get tossed from a ladder truck 100 feet in the air! 🎃

✍🏼💻 Dormont Elementary 5th grade students recently concluded their first CKLA unit on personal narratives by researching their own name, creating presentations about their name, and sharing it with their classmates. 💻✍🏼

Students shared where their name came from, how their family chose it, the meaning of their name, and stories that are connected to their name. This project gave students the opportunity to practice using personal experiences to communicate identity and perspective, and helped build a positive classroom community by seeing that everyone has a unique story. 💛🤍

As they near the end of their first quarter as high school students, Keystone Oaks High School’s freshman class spent this perfect October Thursday afternoon taking part in the inaugural Golden Eagles Academy Field Day. ☀️🦅

Focusing on class unity, community building, school spirit, and belonging, teams of homerooms competed against each other in friendly games of tarp flip, tug of war, a bottle-filling relay, and kickball. Students cheered each other on, supported their classmates, and had a blast building relationships with one another and their upperclassmen mentors! 💛🤍

New this school year, the Golden Eagles Academy is a program designed to support students as they transition into high school. Students have participated in a variety of daily sessions, focusing on everything from touring the school to working on the skills that are necessary for success in high school.

For Golden Oaks Designs, giving back to the community is part of the business plan! 💛 🛠️🧰🤍

Students in this student-run business sell handmade items and dedicate a portion of their earnings to helping others. Club members recently donated $500 to the 102.5 WDVE Children’s Radiothon, supporting Matt’s Makerspace at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. The space gives children opportunities to explore 3D printing and other technologies while receiving care.

It's been a productive start to the year for Golden Oaks Designs, with students selling their handmade items at the Castle Shannon Fire Department’s car show, Green Tree’s Oktoberfest, and the Hickory Apple Festival so far this year.

We’re proud of our students for building a business that combines creativity, entrepreneurship, and community impact! 👏🏼👏🏼

A group of Keystone Oaks High School students recently joined approximately 150 students from area school districts for Pennsylvania Creates, a Remake Learning initiative exploring AI, creativity, and student voice!

They learned about AI’s possibilities and risks, Pittsburgh’s role as a global AI hub, and what it means for their future. Then, working with Google employees, they used Gemini to turn their ideas into initial designs for a mascot representing Pennsylvania.

Their ideas will join contributions from students across the state, with the final mascot unveiled during Remake Learning Days at the end of the school year.

We’re proud of our students for bringing their curiosity, creativity, and voices to this statewide project!

Congratulations to Keystone Oaks High School’s 2026 Homecoming Court! 💛👑🤍

The High School Pep Club kicked off Homecoming weekend festivities today with a fun pep rally for students in grades 6-12. In addition to Homecoming Court introductions, students also showed their school spirit with a band and cheer performance, Homecoming Court trivia, fun competitions, and a hands-free pie eating contest!

The fun continues tonight with the parade, which leaves from Dormont Elementary School at 5:30 p.m., pre-game introductions, the football game against Quaker Valley, and the crowning of the 2026 Homecoming king and queen at halftime!

Two Keystone Oaks seniors - Anthony Cerminara and Shane Fehl - have been named Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Program. They are two of nearly 34,000 students to receive a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise based on their performance on the PSAT exam and plans to attend college after high school.

💚🌎 Last week, student members of the Eradicate Hate club represented Keystone Oaks High School at the 6th annual Eradicate Hate Student Summit, a one-day event that brings together high school students and educators to catalyze youth-led efforts to prevent hate-fueled violence. 🌎💚

Born out of the Tree of Life synagogue tragedy, this summit empowers students to eradicate hate in their schools and communities by connecting them with survivors, providing access to youth-serving organizations, and launching student-led, peer-to-peer projects that continue throughout the school year. The students will reconvene in April, where they will celebrate this year’s student-led initiatives to eradicate hate.

Keystone Oaks was one of 43 schools to participate in this year’s event.

Keystone Oaks High School’s student-run KOffee Shop opened today! ☕️🍩🎃🍁

Students and staff lined up to enjoy a mid-morning treat, including fresh donuts, iced and hot beverages, and the Drink of the Month - a Pumpkin Cream Pie cold brew!

One beautiful September Tuesday ☀️ Five school buildings 🏫 Lots of excellent stories of engagement, empowerment, and enrichment for Keystone Oaks students 💛

🎻First-year orchestra students at Dormont Elementary School begin to learn the basics of playing the violin and viola, while second year students at Aiken Elementary School reviewed notes and began learning a new song. This year, 72 students will participate in weekly orchestra lessons, taught by Mr. Zachary Smith - the largest group in the program’s history!

🦅Myrtle Avenue Elementary School students participated in SOAR School, an event coordinated by Myrtle’s PBIS team. Throughout the day, students learned about school expectations for the bus, cafeteria, recess, arrival and dismissal, restrooms, hallways, and classrooms.

🤖Keystone Oaks’ Technology Department staff held its inaugural artificial intelligence student committee meeting, giving students the opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives on the use of artificial intelligence in our schools.

🦮Finnegan, a therapy dog with Animal Friends’ Therapets programs, visited Ms. Rutkauskas’ classroom, giving them time for comfort and relaxation with one of their favorite four-legged visitors!
