Wrapping up Teacher Appreciation Week with a baked potato and salad bar from Texas Roadhouse. Yesterday we had free cookies for teachers at our bake sale. And we are putting the finishing touches on our raffle, which we will draw next week, just to keep the fun going.

We love our teachers so much, we're so glad we were able to put this week together. Thank you to all the hardworking parents who donated their time, money, and connections to help us show our teachers how much they mean to us. Teacher Appreciation Week is also over, but we appreciate our teacher EVERY DAY. ❤️

Have you been curious about what we've been up to for Teacher Appreciation Week? On Monday we treated our hard working teachers to self care bags full of little goodies to help them destress. On Tuesday they had an amazing lunch generously provided by The Simple Greek, and it was so good we forgot to take pictures! Today we set up a free store for teachers to shop for supplies, compete with sodas and little drink cozies so they could sip while they shop. Big thanks to Fagan Sanitary Supply for donating the paper products our teachers need. And thank you to all the parents who so far have donated time, supplies, and money to help us celebrate our teachers.

We are so happy to get to tell our teachers just how much we appreciate them. Stay tuned for more, the week isn't over yet!

‘Don’t close my school’: PPS students, staff turn out in droves to discuss possible closures, safety Close to a hundred students, parents and staff packed Pittsburgh Public’s school board hearing Monday to discuss transparency, budget cuts and potential building closures.

Dear PTSA members and Obama Academy supporters,

I'm sure by now you have heard that PPS is facing some significant budget shortfalls and schools are looking at cuts in funding across the board. There is a public hearing at 6pm on Monday February 26 (please register to speak here https://pghboe.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3l0voKQUjcvUZka ) and it is important that our voices are heard. The board would like us to cut 5 staff members across the school, and we are also looking at cuts in support staff. Our teachers and staff already do so much with so much less support than the other magnet schools get, it is unfair to ask them to do even more with even less. We are working on getting some talking points put together to help you organize your thoughts, but even just speaking from the heart would help. The board needs to hear from parents just how hard our teachers work and that cutting our resources will make it so much harder at a time when it is already very hard.

Please let us know if you are able to register to speak by messaging us, replying to this post, or email [email protected], and if you are planning to attend in person or via Zoom (we may be able to organize some signs if you are planning to attend in person). We can provide you with a script that you can read from or use as talking points.

Thank you for all that you do as parents and teachers at Obama. Let's show the board just how much we support our school and how much it deserves their support as well.
