This morning, our community gathered to observe Yom HaShoah.
We honored the memory of six million Jews by lighting six candles, heard a powerful testimony of survival, and reflected on the lives and families torn apart during the Holocaust. Standing together at the Keeping Tabs memorial, we were reminded of our responsibility to remember, to share these stories, and to live proudly and unapologetically as Jews.
May their memories be a blessing.

Today we remember the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and honor the millions of others whose lives were taken.
On our CDS campus stands Gary and Nancy Tuckfelt Keeping Tabs: A Holocaust Sculpture, a maze-like Star of David made of glass blocks filled with six million aluminum tabs, each representing one life lost. Collected and counted by CDS Middle School students over nearly a decade, the sculpture reminds us of our responsibility to bear witness and to “keep tabs on our humanity.”

CDS had the incredible opportunity this past Friday to host the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Education, Cindy Marten. Joined by State Representative Dan Frankel, State Senator Jay Costa, and President & CEO of the Jewish Federation Jeff Finkelstein, the Deputy Secretary toured our Keeping Tabs Sculpture and participated in a round table with select students and staff.
We are grateful to the US Deputy Secretary of Education, Cindy Marten, for visiting CDS. This visit had a lasting impact on us.
We are all so proud to be part of the CDS community and this visit marks a historic and very special moment in the life of our school.

Hiding from N***s in an Amsterdam annex, Anne Frank peered out an attic window and saw a white horse chestnut tree towering over 188 Keizersgracht’s courtyard as a beacon of hope. On Feb. 23, 1944, two years into hiding, the young Jewish girl sat in silence as she and Peter
