Jazz Workshop,Inc. 51 years. "Teach, Promote, Preserve, Build and Encourage through music."

*** For 48 years the Jazz Workshop has provided music education and performances to under-served communities in and around Pittsburgh. In the mid-1960’s, the Musicians Union Local #471 located in East Liberty, provided a facility and professional musicians to develop the musical potential of young African American students. Due to the forced integration of the Local Musicians Union #60 in downtown Pittsburgh with Local #471, the East Liberty facility was no longer available to serve the needs of those students. Recognizing the long-term effect this would have on Black students, the Black Musicians of Pittsburgh (BMOP), which was formed after the integration, organized what is commonly known, 37 years later as the Jazz Workshop Inc.***
