Did you know the library has a collection of legal resources representing critical race theory? The Derrick A. Bell Constitutional Law Commons is located on the fifth floor of the law building, and includes selected titles from Derrick Bell, a 1957 honors graduate of Pitt’s School of Law, the first tenured Black professor at Harvard Law School, and later one of the first Black deans of a law school that was not historically Black. Bell was a pioneer in the field of Critical Race Theory and a champion of race and gender diversity in the legal community.

As we observe Black History Month, we take the time to actively celebrate the contributions of the black community and remember the importance of racial justice and equity.
