Very moved by the obituary of our beloved Joe Negri published in the New York Times. His musical legacy and the generosity of spirit he showed to students, colleagues, and everyone he came in contact with will never be forgotten.

The University of Pittsburgh Department of Music mourns the passing of Joe Negri, who shared his wisdom and passion with generations of Pitt students for close to 50 years. His influence on our department and in our city's art life is immeasurable.

Many will know Joe as the gentle Handyman Negri from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. At Pitt, we knew him as a dedicated teacher and colleague whose warmth, humility, and generosity enriched our department for decades.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Joe's family, friends, former students, and all those whose lives were touched by his remarkable gifts. His music and spirit will continue to resonate for generations to come.

Thank you Joe, rest in peace dear friend.

Resa Lascek is a third-year Communication Sciences and Disorders major and a member of the Pitt Treble Choral Ensemble. Coming from a musical family, she knew she wanted to join an ensemble when she arrived at college, and she emphasizes that ensembles are especially important for students from elsewhere who are looking to establish themselves on campus.

This is Zoë Curtis – one of our Sounds of Possible ambassadors, hailing from Buffalo, NY! Zoe is a Biochemistry and Music major who participates in the Pitt Jazz Ensemble, the University of Pittsburgh Symphonic Band, and the University of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Get to know about her experience as an ensemble member in three of the largest groups that perform at Pitt and how it impacted her first-year experience.

We’re at 94% of our Sounds of Possible goal!!! We could not have done it without all the amazing friends inside and outside of the University, as well as the support of students and faculty. You can still help us get there by navigating to pi.tt/ourenssembles. Thank you, dearly, for your support!
