Please join us for a virtual premiere of a series of films on mental health created by youth filmmakers in Pittsburgh. In this project, a group of 8 youth across the city were trained to create, analyze, and screen their own films using a research method Collaborative Filmmaking (www.collaborativefilmmaking.com) to explore mental health stressors and supports in their lives. At this event, we will introduce attendees to the Collaborative Filmmaking research method, have the opportunity view short films created by the youth, and to speak with the filmmakers about their creative works. This study, led by Jessie Burke and Sara Baumann of Pitt Public Health Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences, was generously supported by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation and a University of Pittsburgh Year of Creativity Grant. Baumann is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. As a mixed-methods researcher, she utilizes participatory, arts-based tools to study mental health and reproductive health issues. Join us for a global health talk: Public Health in the Republic of Georgia - by Esma Imerlishvili (May 20th at 11am)

Esma is the co-founder and chair-person of the NGO “Association for Well-being of Society” in the Republic of Georgia and holds a master’s degree in Epidemiology and Environmental Medicine from Tbilisi State Medical University. Her focus areas are sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). In her talk, Esma will introduce the context of Georgia from a public health perspective, including the country’s historical and cultural context, which are critical for informing SRHR research and interventions.

Esma is placed at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences for her 2021 Professional Fellowship via the U.S. State Department, working with Drs. Baumann and Burke.
