Wonderful post about relationships with children. This is so hard and so important! Worth the struggle and growth it takes as parents to shift our perspectives from what we have been taught or how we react to focusing on our goals and and responding to the situation in the present moment.

When you realize your child wants to be good for you and in relationship for you but sometimes their impulses or immaturity makes it hard to do this, we realize children aren’t bad, they are just in fact - children.⠀
⠀
Childhood is a beautiful, crazy, short lived, trying, cherished, and important time of life. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I’m going to be honest, for me personally it was hard to have this attitude towards childhood when I was following a lot of memes and jokes about how horrible kids are (there are some pages who do a great job at truly funny memes about parenthood, I’m not talking about those.❤️❤️❤️).⠀⠀
⠀⠀
When I was having a hard time in early motherhood these negative memes would be an escape for me. I’d aimless scroll through these pages and feel validated in my frustrations.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
➡️What happened is what was poured into me when I was scrolling through IG started coming out in my attitude towards my child. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I started internalizing the messages that motherhood was always hard, my kids were annoying, and I’d always be a hot mess.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
I asked the question “Is this serving me” when consuming media.⠀
⠀⠀
When I started changing what I read or consumed about children and childhood it helped remind me of the fundamental truths about kids, parenting, and the beauty of childhood.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
This helped in the moments that were hard or frustrating. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
When we change lens we view childhood through, it changes the way we discipline our kids.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Instead of looking through the lens of: ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Kids are bad.⠀⠀
Kids need to be punished.⠀⠀
Kids are annoying and burdens.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
If we intentionally try to give ourselves grace in the moments that are really tough (of course there will he moments we feel annoyed or frustrated and with our kids this is human!) and bring ourselves back to a deep respect for childhood, we will enjoy our children more and help them have a cherished childhood.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Our kids want to be good. They want to be in closer relationship with us. But they are children, and sometimes they can’t control their impulses. ⠀
⠀⠀
Post a ❤️ below if you find these mindset shift reminders about children helpful!
