"The first wealth is health"
My guiding principle. I believe the purpose of relationships is to be a source of support and empowerment.
Always willing to share the life enhancing effects of essential oils, mindfulness and being present with whatever we may be facing, together. My core values are community, connection and contribution.

I love how the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention defines MH because it emphasizes its impact on our lives: โMental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.โ

Mental Health Awareness Month; recently, I posted about the mood aspect of well-being presented in the New York Times self-assessment.
Today, let's talk about Self-Talk. STOP reading right now, please. Check in with your inner monologue (you know, that voice in ALL of our heads).
Is it speaking to you in a critical voice or a compassionate one? How does it typically weigh in when you try something new? When you make a mistake, does it beat you up or give you the benefit of the doubt?
According to Dr. Laurie Santos, a professor of psychology at Yale University, โOur thought patterns really affect our emotions and our well-being a lot." You and I know this from our lived experience, right? How willing are you today to change your thoughts?
Suggestion: if you wouldn't speak to your BEST FRIEND the way you speak to yourself, please STOP again and ask: what would I say if my best friend just experienced this [fill in the blank]. Care enough about yourself to say those exact words to YOURSELF! ๐
So, May is Mental Health Month. What does that mean to you? For me, it means even more MH related content shows up in my feeds. This week, that led me to The New York Times Well-Being Check-in page.
There, youโll find useful questions re: Mood, Self-Talk & Physical Health that can help us consider our current state of MH.
MOOD: Been in a โbadโ mood lately? Martin Seligman, Director of the Positive Psychology Center at the University of Pennsylvania, suggests an easy ritual: Every evening for one week, write down three things that went well that day, and why.
IF you decide to try this, post your results in comments next Friday.
Another interesting way to intercept our Saboteurs and strengthen our Sage Powers.
Recently relistened to the 3 talks I've given at Unity Center of Pittsburgh. Excellent "post-game" learning re: how to improve my public speaking skills.
Goal: look into local Toastmasters group within the next 30 days. There! I've committed it to "writing" and in public. ๐
