[DOWNTIME] All club services will experience an extended 32-hour shutdown this weekend (Sat 5/20 08:00 – Sun 5/21 16:00 EDT) due to a scheduled power shutdown affecting several campus buildings.

We have worked with our campus partners to move our offsite machine from Wean Hall, which will also be affected by the same shutdown, to a generator-backed facility in Gates. We are still working to determine how best to help improve continuity of certain core services.

Updates will be posted here as necessary.

The CMU Computer Club has moved our official IRC channel to Libera Chat. Please join us in .

For more information, see

CClub & Demosplash IRC have moved. You can find the old freenode/ # community at libera/ . (See tweet.) We took the network move as an opportunity to rename and register as a community channel. The cmucc.org/irc redirect has been updated accordingly.

[UPDATE] The belt in our cooling unit has been replaced, and temperatures in our datacenter are now stabilizing. We were able to keep them below our critical thresholds throughout today's incident.

05/05/2020

[STATUS] The Computer Club has experienced a total loss of airflow to our cooling unit and our datacenter is experiencing elevated temperatures as a result. FMCS is aware and we are taking mitigating measures on-site, but we may soon have to begin shutting down non-essential services to maintain temperature if the situation continues.

[DOWNTIME UPDATE] Following our scheduled outage, NNTP and a few of our colocated VMs currently remain down. We are working to restore these services shortly.

08/10/2018

Because of the loss of power to Cyert Hall, our regularly scheduled Open Hacking Hours for Saturday 11 August are CANCELLED. Please do not show up. We'll be back at it again from 17:00 on 18 August.

[UPCOMING DOWNTIME] Due to continuing work related to the ongoing power situation on campus, Carnegie Mellon's Facilities Management have announced a fifth (and expected-to-be-final) power shutdown affecting the CMU Computer Club's Cyert Hall datacenter. As such, all club services will be shut down and unavailable for the majority of the following downtime window:

● This weekend, Friday 10 August 22:00 EDT – Sunday 12 August 13:00 EDT.

The club will be taking the opportunity during restart procedures on Sunday morning to redistribute power so we can begin to leverage our newly-installed power expansion, which is the reason for the delayed end of the window.

All times are tentative and ultimately dependent on campus Facilities Management, which is in turn dependent on many campus stakeholders.

Thanks for your continued understanding and patience through as the campus power situation is resolved.

08/03/2018

We will be taking down certain club services to install updates this weekend. The services will go down or may experience reduced performance during our regular Saturday maintenance window, from 4:30-9:30pm EDT, August 4th.

Specifically, the following will be briefly unavailable:
- Certain AFS volumes, including some home directories
- CGI scripts hosted on www.club.cc.cmu.edu
- CLAM, our experimental UNIX shell
- Databases for cclub infrastructure and club members hosted on CLUB-MYSQL and CLUB-POSTGRES
- IMAP access to email
- OYSTER, one of the UNIX shells (users may move their sessions to WHELK, which will remain up for the duration of the maintenance window)
- Password changing services for Cclub accounts
- WebApps and wikis we host that use Andrew (WebLogin) or Cclub (WebISO) single sign-on
