This past weekend, our Chapter co-hosted a game watch party with Special Olympics Allegheny County at PNC Park. More than 200 Penn Staters, including about 10 lettermen, cheered our Nittany Lions on to another victory and celebrated SOPAโs newly formed Claiborne-Paterno Endowment. The endowment is named for two incredible women; Loretta Claiborne is the most decorated Special Olympian in their history and of course we all know how special Sue Paterno is.
What a fun day with so many friends! We hope to do it again next year!

Last weekend, our Penn State Alumni Association hosted Leaders Of Volunteer Engagement (LOVEs) from all over the country for an Alumni Leadership Connections conference. The conference is held at University Park in even years, and chooses a few off-site locations around the country in odd years.
It was a wonderful opportunity to visit Happy Valley, see some old friends, make some new friends, and finally meet some Zoom friends in person. A series of curated workshops and breakout sessions gave us all a chance to learn how to be better leaders and share ideas with each other, and a panel discussion with some impressive Alumni to share their wisdom.

This past weekend, The Penn State Alumni Association - Greater Pittsburgh Chapter hosted our 2nd Annual Mini Golf Outing at Scally's Golf Center! We welcomed more than 35 golfers of all ages to play a round, enjoy a pizza party, and try to win some of the great raffle prizes donated by several local small businesses. Afterwards, four golfers were chosen at random to play in a Championship Round, complete with a Caddy (our Vice President, Greg Scott, donned a Tyvex suit and golf bag in the heat!) and the rest of the crowd followed along with their best golf claps and encouragement. In the end, our Champions got to choose from our top prizes - a desktop mini fridge, a model of a Mini Cooper, a mini tabletop football game, and a mini deck of PSU trivia cards (get itโฆ.mini?)
Despite the heat, everyone had a blast and we raised more than $1300 for our FastStart Program Endowment!

Last week, I was honored to attend the Karli Short Better Tomorrow Foundation's inaugural fundraising gala at the Omni William Penn Hotel here in Pittsburgh. Brandon Short created the Foundation following the heartbreaking loss of his daughter, Karli, to gun violence last year.
Among other things, the foundation will create scholarships for PSU GA students who have been affected by gun violence. Their goal was to raise $500,000 but with the love and support of a room full of friends, family, and fellow Alumni the total climbed to more than $650,000.
It was an inspirational evening full of all kinds of emotions, and I had a great time seeing some old friends, meeting some new friends, and paying respect to some PSU/NFL greats!
