We had a wonderful day celebrating Mărțișor! The Albinuța was a huge hit and sold out first. Our other sweet treats were also enjoyed by many, and dozens of mărțișoare were purchased to be shared with loved ones.

Our visitors had a great time creating their own mărțișoare.

It was such a joy to see old friends and make a few new ones!

Get ready to welcome Spring while celebrating a wonderful Romanian tradition.
The Romanian Nationality Room will host the annual Martisor event where guests can create their own martisor , purchase delightful martisoare for their friends & loved ones and admire a beautiful collection of Romanian traditional costumes.

Martisor is an old tradition celebrated all over Romania every year, on March 1st. The name Martisor is a diminutive of March (Martie in Romanian language). It is believed that the person who wears the red and white string would enjoy a prosperous and healthy year.

This custom is observed and celebrated in countries like: Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Republic of Moldova and Romania.

The cultural practices associated to the 1st of March, "Martisor" were inscribed in 2017 on the UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Looking forward to welcoming you on Sunday, March 1st 2026, in the Croghan-Schenley Room at University of Pittsburgh, from 1:00-4:00pm.
