Council for Diversity, Richness, and Inclusion at Heinz College

We are a student organization dedicated to ensuring that the CMU Heinz College community lives up to its potential for diversity and inclusion.

We seek to address issues associated with social, economic, and racial justice.

Operating as usual

The events of the past few weeks in the U.S. have called on each and every one of us to make a choice. In the face of racism, fascism, and anti-blackness, there is no middle ground. We condemn the violent police ex*****on of George Floyd. The CDRI Board supports and, like many of you in our community, we know that our freedom is intrinsically tied to the freedom of all oppressed peoples; no one is free until black people are free.

George Floyd’s murder is one of countless horrific, widespread, preventable crimes perpetuated by the police. Racism is a public health emergency and, beyond that, it is a moral imperative to be anti-racist. We must change the circumstances. We must make it unacceptable to be racist.

Here are a list of bail funds you can donate to:
-Freedomfund on venmo for the Pittsburgh community!

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but a great place to start.

Here is a petition you can sign to :

Again, this is by no means all there is to do, but it is the first of many steps towards justice.

The CMU community is diverse and dedicated to a better future. It is time to put our heart in the real work. We call on our fellow campus groups to publicly support and we stand proudly with those who have and continue to fight against fascism, police brutality, and racism. Without justice, there is no peace.

Hi folkx!

Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard three cases that question the rights of LGBTQ+ people in the workplace. The threat of living authentically and outwardly in our present political moment has never felt more palpable.

We write to remind you that the CDRI and CMQ+ communities are dedicated to serving as a resource for student needs, and we support LGBTQ+ movements locally and broadly. We hope you'll find the below list of additional resources helpful and invite you to share any other actions surrounding this issue and more.

- CMQ+ Support Groups (Every Friday 3:30 - 4:30 pm)
- Virtual Town Hall (tonight at 8 pm)
- LGBTQ+ Presidential Town Hall Watch Party (Oct 10)

- Supreme Court case transcript

Big thanks to Professor Murphy for leading the guided meditation during our Mini 1 Wellness Hour! If you were unable to make it, fret not! The next event is coming up in November. Midterm weeks are crazy, but remember: You GOT this!

This week, a broad coalition of CMU students (including many CDRI members) joined a national movement to oppose campus recruiting by Palantir. Palantir actively develops tech for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that separates families at the US Border.

This protest was swiftly organized after Palantir announced its CMU visit with hardly any notice, so if you didn’t hear about it and want to participate, please sign the petition and stay tuned!

Stop by for food, crafts and caricatures as we enjoy some relief from the semester's stress. This wellness hour features guided meditation by Heinz's own Professor Sandra Murphy.

CDRI would like to wish a happy Rosh Hashanah to all those who celebrate and observe the holiday! Wishing you and yours a prosperous, healthy, and joyous New Year!

Don’t miss us MONDAY for our most popular event! Imposter Syndrome is highly common in academia, especially amongst students. Join CDRI's staple workshop to deconstruct this phenomenon, hear from fellow students about their experiences, and learn ways to manage the stress and anxiety this may cause.

Welcome to the new CDRI page! We look forward to building a more inclusive community together!
