The Office of Inclusion and Belonging's mission is to cultivate a culture of respect, awareness, and understanding among Pitt State students, faculty, and staff, celebrating diversity on campus and in the community. The OIB facilitates this mission through the following objectives:
- Seminars and Workshops: These programs are designed to broaden the horizons of students, faculty, and staff on iss
ues regarding diversity and multiculturalism.
- Support Structure for Student Organizations: The OIB provides support services for the Black Student Association (BSA), Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA), Hispanics of Today (HOT), Native American Student Association (NASA), and United Women (UW), including assisting with the planning of events and programs throughout the academic year.
- Celebration of Nationally Recognized Heritage Months: The OIB participates alongside the entire national community in the celebration of cultural heritage months including but not limited to African-American, Hispanic-American, and Native-American months. The OIB also supports many other initiatives such as National Women's History Month.
- Participation in Diversity and Multicultural Conferences: OIB ambassadors attend workshops and conferences throughout the academic year to continuously develop the tools and resources necessary to consistently achieve the OIB mission at Pitt State.
- Student Advisement Programs: The hosts events and provides services that ease students' transition to higher education and helps build the relationships and support structure that enables them to persist and graduate from Pitt State. The OIB also sponsors several leadership skill-building programs for students.
- Access to Educational and Developmental Resources: The OIB maintains the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC). The MRC is a comprehensive library of books, magazines, and videos for students, faculty, and staff.
