Our K-INBRE students made the most of their summer research experiences, gaining valuable hands-on training in the laboratory and the field while contributing to a wide range of scientific projects.

This summer, students are developing composite materials for biomedical application, exploring materials used in nanoparticle synthesis, building skills in cell culture techniques and bioinformatics analysis, collecting tick samples from farms and natural habitats and preparing samples for metagenomics research, conducting field studies on butterfly populations, and investigating gene expression through laboratory research.

These experiences provide students with opportunities to strengthen their research skills, work alongside faculty mentors, and contribute to meaningful scientific discoveries.

We are grateful for the support from Dean Christopher Childers. He makes these transformative undergraduate research experiences possible.

A proud PSU alumna, accomplished scientist, educator, researcher, and industry leader, Dr. Brooker brings an extraordinary combination of academic excellence, global leadership experience, and a lifelong commitment to STEM education. Her career spans higher education, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, quality assurance, research, and scientific innovation, with leadership roles at organizations including Bayer, Dow, Abbott Laboratories, and Recursion Pharmaceuticals.

As a former faculty member, Dr. Brooker inspired Pitt State students through teaching, research, mentorship, and service. Her work has led to groundbreaking discoveries, a U.S. patent, impactful STEM education initiatives, and the development of future scientists and leaders.

She is passionate about supporting students, empowering faculty, advancing research, and strengthening the department's role in shaping the future of science.
