Weigted Chair Top Workout💪

Pilates people: Build glute and leg power with added upper body strength, all in one series on the Pilates chair💥

Did you know Joseph Pilates lived in a second floor apartment next door to his Gym in New York? By flipping the Wunda Chair on its back and making minor adjustment, the apparatus became a dining room chair. He had 6 Wunda Chairs around his wooden dining room table.

It's my 74th trip around the sun 🌞

Heres my favorite quote from Joseph Pilates:
“We retire too early and we die too young. Our prime of life should be in the 70's and old age should not come until we are almost 100."

Today I still:
Teach Pilates 5x week
Do 50 push ups 3 x wk
Practice Pilates on the Reformer, Chair and Cadillac 3x week
Do an hour of cardio 6x week
Believe I am strong and capable of anything I put my mind to.

Jeannie, age 88, is a determined person who just won't stop. Here she is demonstrating a perfect adductor plank. It's an advanced plank move on the CoreAlign.

Check out her hashtag for more of her workouts.

Jeannie was my personal training client at the gym starting in her 60's. When I opened my own Pilates studio in 2005, Jeannie immediately switched to Pilates training. She knew Pilates training was exactly what she needed. When the CoreAlign came along, she had to try it, too. In fact, whenever I ask her if she wants to try a new exercise, she always says "I'll try." I love her positive outlook on life.

When I sold my studio to semi retire, she was the first person to show up at my current studio Central Core | Pilates & Neuro

Her recommendation for staying active at her age is "Just dont stop." Go Jeannie, go.

7 Reformer Dismounts

As a Pilates instructor, you are in charge of every moment and every movement of your students from start to finish of class.

Don't drop the ball on the Reformer dismount! Make every dismount an opportunity to introduce or incorporate different Pilates repertoire, like mat work.

Here are 7 ideas for a smooth transition from supine to sitting. All of these can be finished on either side of the reformer, based on your next move.

The rollup/rollover variations require a lighter spring setting, and are great to follow hands or feet in straps.

Spring training below & above↕️

Why do just feet on the push thru bar when you can add simultaneous arm and core work?

Try this Pilates Cadillac set up with the push thru bar resistance from below and above for a sweet lower body, upper body, and core workout.

The set up:
✔️1 heavy short red arm spring
(heavy BalancedBody) from below, attached
to the bottom eyelets
✔️2 short yellow arm springs with handles
on the front of the push thru bar also from
below, attached to the bottom eyelets.

Pump and jump

your way to a fun, full body jumpboard flow while strengthening your bones🤩

Keep and try these 12 jumping sequences with added hand weights.

Ten minute of jumping 3 x week will increase:
✔️core strength
✔️leg power
✔️bone density
✔️coordination
✔️proprioception
✔️as well as having a cardiovascular benefit of elevating the heart rate and building endurance.

Add hand weights and you've got a full body workout🌟

Regarding spring loads, they can vary, based on your goals.

Light springs, like 1 yellow or one blue, will emphasize core strength because there will more "air time" which requires the abs to work more with the legs suspended in the air when jumping out and in.

Heavy springs, like 2 red or a red and green, will challenge leg strength more to push the carriage out.

I also intermittently use what I call a "land, pause, push off" technique, which takes out a bit of the rebound

💪At 73, I'm aging strongly, are you?

Here, I'm using one 5 pound hand weight to augment the power of Reformer Pilates planks, pikes, and lunges, all on one blue Balanced Body spring.

Planks are the basis of many Pilates exercises. These full body moves require strength from the core, upper and lower body all at once. Progressiveely adding more weights will increase the load on the body with each targeted exercise. And that's what builds muscle.

The average sedentary woman loses about 4 -6 pounds of muscle mass each decade starting in the 30's. If you maintain your weight, but are sedentary, for example, about 4 pounds of muscle mass weight was lost, and you've gained four pounds of fat weight😵‍💫

Muscle is what burns calories....so you want to keep it and even build it throughout life🌟

At 73 the goal isn't to look 33...

It's to show 33 year olds what they still can do when they turn 73🌟 Pilates power is the key 🔑

So, if you do Pilates, keep it up. If you don't do Pilates, now would be the time to start💯 Its never too late.
