In the Game of Logging, every cut has a purpose.

This isn’t a written test or an online lesson — it’s hands-on. It’s the only way to learn the precision and awareness that keep people safe in the woods.

Participants trained side by side under instructor Bill, learning to read the lean of a tree, sense how wind moves through the canopy, and make each cut with intention — building the skills and confidence to work safely and efficiently in the field, whether clearing roads, maintaining trails, or managing their own land.

Join Cornell Cooperative Extension of Hamilton County at our Annual Meeting
When: Wednesday, November 12, 2025, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM
The Annual Meeting for Cornell Cooperative Extension of Hamilton County will be held at the Wells Senior Nutrition Site, which is located behind the Wells Community Center, on the 12th of November. During this meeting we will be conducting elections for positions on the Board of Directors, reviewing our Constitution, reviewing this year's accomplishments, and conducting annual business. Attendees will have the opportunity to win one of the door prizes provided, which include gift cards. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served at 12 p.m. Lunch shall be served at small fee for anyone that doesn't R.S.V.P. for dining accommodations while supplies last. Participants that attend the Annual Meeting and R.S.V.P for lunch by November 2nd will have the costs of their meal waived. Please contact the Wells Senior Nutrition Site (518-924-4066) by the 2nd of November to reserve a seat(s) for lunch. The Wells Meal Site will be serving a Pot Roast luncheon. No reservations are required to attend the Annual Meeting. If you have any questions or special needs, please contact the Cornell Cooperative Extension Hamilton County office at 518-548-6191.

Join us for the Black Bear in the Adirondacks: Soup to Nuts Presentation about Black Bears

Have you struggled with black bear issues? Perhaps you are enthralled by their fuzzy ears and want to know more about them? If so, join CCE Hamilton for Lou Berchielli’s presentation, Black Bears in the Adirondacks, at the Lake Pleasant Public Library on July 19 at 2:00pm. Lou is a retired wildlife biologist and manager that has spent 30 years of his career with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation as a Black Bear Specialist. During that time, he has had countless encounters with black bears, from capturing cubs and adults for monitoring, to investigating black bear related problems ranging from bird feeder incidents and home entries, to human injuries. Drop in and learn about the history of black bears in the Adirondacks and learn how to solve your black bear issues from someone with years of experience. Walk-ins are welcomed, but you are able to pre-register for the event by calling our office at 518-548-6191 to guarantee a seat. The presentation is free to attend.
