IEEE SSCS Awards Season is Closing Soon! 🏆

The October 15 application window is approaching fast. The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS) Awards Committee is dedicated to ensuring our members receive global recognition for their outstanding contributions across circuit design, semiconductor technology, and microelectronics.

From pioneering early-career researchers to industry visionaries and outstanding Ph.D. candidates, our society awards highlight excellence across every career stage:

• James D. Meindl Innovators Award: Up to $20,000 project grant + $5,000 honorarium for creative student-engaging IC initiatives.
• Brokaw Award for Circuit Elegance: $10,000 prize celebrating simple, creative sub-circuits where "a few transistors do a big job."
• Distinguished Service Award: Honoring dedicated volunteers for exceptional leadership and service to the Society.
• New Frontier Award: $5,000 prize for early-career members pushing technical frontiers (within 10 years of degree).
• Innovative Education Award: $5,000 prize recognizing novel teaching methods, open-source resources, or outreach.
• Industry Impact Award: $5,000 prize recognizing seminal commercial breakthroughs and IC product innovations (past 10 years).
• Predoctoral Achievement Award: Up to $3,000 honorarium + travel support for outstanding Ph.D. candidates.

This prestigious award honors early-career SSCS members exploring visionary technical work at the frontiers of IC design, system architecture, or emerging applications.

Award Benefits:
• Honorarium of $5,000 USD and a commemorative plaque
• Recognition at the plenary session of an SSCS-sponsored conference

Eligibility Highlights:

💡 Important Notice for the Solid-State Circuits Community: Elevating Nomination Quality for the Next IEEE Fellow Cycle.

If you are planning to nominate a colleague for the upcoming IEEE Fellow class, please be aware that significant changes have been made to the global IEEE Fellow nomination and evaluation process. The next deadline for all official submissions is February 7, 2027.

To support our community through these updates, the Solid-State Circuits Society has launched the new SSCS Fellow Search Committee (FSC). Composed entirely of distinguished IEEE Fellows, the FSC was formed to provide strategic, pre-submission support and ensure our society's nominations align perfectly with the updated evaluation benchmarks.

How the FSC Can Help You:

* Navigate the Updates: Get clear answers regarding recent structural changes to the global IEEE Fellow program.
* Expert Pre-Submission Feedback: Receive guidance and constructive reviews on your drafted nomination forms to best highlight technical impact.
* Nominator Mentorship: Partner with an experienced Fellow mentor starting September 15, 2026, to walk you through the package preparation process from day one.

Nominations are open for the IEEE Brokaw Award for Circuit Elegance!

While modern IC design often focuses on vast system complexity, this award celebrates simple, smart, and elegant sub-circuits that combine critical functions into just a few components.

Award Benefits:
• A $10,000 cash prize (shared evenly among co-designers)
• Up to $5,000 in travel support to attend ISSCC in the presentation year
• Up to three designs recognized annually

Eligibility & Requirements:
• Nominees must be current SSCS members in good standing (self-nominations permitted).
• The circuit must have been created within the past decade (does not require prior publication).
• Submission package must include a tutorial description of the circuit, an explanation of its elegance, and proof of a working implementation (lab test results or thorough simulations).

Nominations are officially open for the IEEE SSCS James D. Meindl Innovators Award!

Established in 2021, this annual award recognizes SSCS members who create innovative projects that build excitement about solid-state circuits for future generations, expand access to technology, or engage underrepresented groups in circuit design.

Award Benefits:
• A development grant of up to $20,000 to support your project proposal
• A $5,000 honorarium
• A commemorative plaque presented at ISSCC

Who can apply?
Current SSCS members in good standing who have been members since at least the previous calendar year. Self-nominations are accepted!

Nomination Requirements:

1. One-page summary of accomplishments and involvement in solid-state circuits
2. One-page plan detailing how the grant will support a project to engage the next generation of IC designers
3. Two letters of recommendation

Editor’s Notes: This paper describes a second-order noise shaping successive approximation register ADC featuring an innovative noise shaping technique that selectively suppresses kT/C noise within the signal band. It avoids the wideband noise extraction amplifier of prior art and thereby achieves a reduced input sampling capacitance and high power efficiency.
