😊 S’more Smiler News 😊

News and updates from the desk of Mr. French…

We had a great week at Pineville Elementary that included continuing to build routines for learning, building relationships and even welcoming special guests that included WBTV. It is always great to get to show off our school and all the wonderful people that make it special. I hope you enjoyed the news segments and thank you to all our Smilers that made it happen!

This Tuesday, I would love to get a chance to meet with kindergarten families virtually to check in on how the school year is going. If you are a kindergarten family and can log in for a short meeting, I would love to see you there at 1pm. The meeting is on TEAMS and is linked in our newsletter.

Also on Wednesday, our third graders will have their Beginning of Grade (BOG) test. This test is a preliminary test of all standards taught in literacy for Third Graders. It is an opportunity for our students to show what they know, so we can then see how to support throughout the year to get them ready for the End of Grade (EOG) assessments. If you have a third grader, please encourage them to try their best and help them get a good night's sleep.

In one of the news segments, you probably saw All Pro Dads. This Friday, our dads are over at Lake Park at 3:30pm for a meet up. We would love for new Dads to stop by with their kids to get to know one another.

Our PTA is also hosting their first big event, Bingo Night, on September 25th. We rolled this event out last year and had so much fun. We decided to bring the event back this year but move it to the Fall to kick off the year. We hope you will be able to make it for a fun night!

I hope everyone enjoys the three day weekend, and we can't wait to see our Smilers back on Tuesday!

👑📖 Our Queen City Readers Program needs YOU!

💛 Start your day off the best way - with a sweet Kindergarten or 1st Grade Smiler! Consider volunteering with our Queen City Readers Program! Support kindergarten and 1st grade readers that need additional practice with direct phonics skills. The entire program is scripted and anyone can do it!

📅 Volunteers are needed from 7:30-8:10 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. You can volunteer for one, two or three days. Please consider joining us to help build the foundational skills of reading in our littlest smilers!

We had a great first week of learning at Pineville Elementary. Thank you to our families for working with us as we continue to build the systems and processes for a great school year. Thank you for your patience with transportation and car rider line especially, as I know these have been difficult for some of our families.

Our students did a great job this week ensuring they were ready to learn, collaborating with one another and getting to know their new teachers. I am extremely proud of our students for their hard work.

At home, please continue to ask your child about the Smiler Way. We also love if you can take time reading with your child, no matter their age.

This coming Friday, we will have special guests. WBTV will be on campus all morning to film their news show live! We can't wait to see our Smilers on tv and to show off our amazing school.
