Today our Programming capstone students presented a variety of their final projects. Our first group shared their process in creating a course catalog management system, a tool for instructors to quickly create and edit course catalog content each semester. Next up was a group who collaborated with SCC’s IT department to develop for them a new Loaner Laptop Database, a software to assist in tracking laptop status and notifying users of maintenance needs.

Looking into the world of stocks, our third group demonstrated their software which uses a “ticker table” to classify and filter a multitude of stock market articles to provide users with as relevant information as possible. Finally came a team who created a database for graveyards. This database would collect information and photos tied to grave inhabitants, connect entries of family members, and ultimately provide a scalable system for information accessibility for a multitude of locations.

Today ACES Club and Computer Technology Club met to reveal the winner of Little Hall Battle #3 and the overall winner of the Little Hall Battle competitions.

Please join us in congratulating ACES Club on their victories in Little Hall Battle #3 putting competition AND their overall victory of these 1st annual Little Hall Battle competitions. We also recognized an impressive feat from our own instructor Ms. Parsons who putted a hole-in-one from over 40 feet away!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Little Hall Battles this semester, we hope you had a great time and wish you success heading into finals.

Whether it’s Machine Learning, Cryptography, or numerical analysis algorithms, an important figure in computer science is none other than Pi, a number that happens to share a name with a very delicious dessert and so we celebrated Pi in a flavorful way, with pie!

None got a better taste than Professor Paul Steel who demonstrated for the students Pie in action!

This morning our Photographic Imaging students got ahead of the rain and took to the Horticultural Gardens for some hands-on experience with Depth of Field. Using the settings on your camera you can bring the subject of your photo into focus even when other objects are nearer. Despite the wind students found still subjects among the flowers of the gardens and even greeted some drivers on campus as students practiced panning, a technique for catching subjects in motion.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booths today at the Moore County Schools Career Far!

This event was an excellent opportunity for students to meet a multitude of Businesses, Organizations, and institutions. It was our pleasure share with students what can be done and what other students have accomplished through the programs at SCC.

Computers do wonderous things and we can take you beyond wondering how they do! We look forward to seeing everyone again in the future and for all the exciting conversations to follow!

Today our Upgrade & Repair students set to work on a variety of projects including a full gaming pc build. The team for this build worked systematically from motherboard to graphics card making for an extensive pc exercise. These lab exercises bridge classroom knowledge into hands on experience, an excellent combination for anyone looking to build their career.
